Goeneutte studied under Pils and exhibited at the Salon from 1876 onwards. He was one of the organisers of the painter/engraver exhibitions ( Expositions des Peintres-Graveurs). His principal preoccupation lay in capturing scenes from everyday life in Paris, portraying its citizens and, above all, the women of the city. There is a discernible influence of Raffaëlli, although Goeneutte lacks the latter's expressive intensity. Born in Boston, Lilla Perry was a key person, along with Mary Cassatt, in bringing French Impressionism* to the United States from France. For many years, she lectured, wrote, and encouraged American patronage of the style. She was also the artist most closely involved with the Guild of Boston Artists, which opened its galleries in 1914 to promote accomplished painters and sculptors. She served on the board as the first secretary and worked hard to cultivate persons for financial backing.
Perry had prominent Boston social credentials that included the Cabot and Lowell families. Her father was a distinguished surgeon; and her husband's great uncle, Commodore Matthew Perry, opened Japan to the world in 1853. In 1874, she married Professor Thomas Sergeant Perry, a professor of 18th-century literature, and their home became a gathering place for many Boston intellectuals including Henry James, William Dean Howells, and her brother-in-law, painter John LaFarge.

Biography: Louise Abbéma, a prominent French artist of the Belle Époque, was born on October 30, 1853, in Étampes, Essonne, France. She hailed from a wealthy Parisian family with strong connections to the local artistic community. Her family’s artistic ties ran deep, as her great-grandmother was the renowned actress Louise Contat.
From a young age, Abbéma exhibited a talent for painting and began her artistic journey in her early teens. She received formal training under the guidance of notable artists of her time, such as Charles Joshua Chaplin, Jean-Jacques Henner, and Carolus-Duran. Her talent and dedication bore fruit when, at the age of 23, she painted a portrait of the legendary actress Sarah Bernhardt, who became both a lifelong friend and, speculatively, a romantic partner.
Abbéma’s artistic endeavors extended far beyond portraiture. She lent her creative touch to the embellishment of various iconic Parisian landmarks. Her panels and murals graced the Paris Town Hall, the Paris Opera House, numerous theaters (including the aptly named “Théâtre Sarah Bernhardt”), and even the “Palace of the Colonial Governor” in Dakar, Senegal. Her unique style combined academic and impressionistic elements, characterized by the use of light and rapid brushstrokes.
Recognition continued to find Abbéma, and she became a regular exhibitor at the prestigious Paris Salon, earning an honorable mention for her work in 1881. She also had the distinction of having her art displayed at the Women’s Building during the 1893 World Columbian Exposition in Chicago. Moreover, a bust of Abbéma sculpted by Sarah Bernhardt was showcased at the exposition.
Abbéma’s artistic repertoire was diverse, encompassing oil portraits and watercolors. Her work often bore the influence of Chinese and Japanese painters, as well as contemporary masters like Édouard Manet. Flowers were a recurring motif in her creations. Barend Hendrik Koekkoek’s life unfolds with a certain mystery, his artistic journey shaped by training from his father and, likely, his uncle Marinus Adrianus. In 1878, he tied the knot with Carolina Allardina Cornelia Pierson and ventured into the artistic scenes of Hilversum and Brussels, simultaneously opening an art dealership in Amsterdam.
Around 1882, the call of London beckoned, echoing the path paved by his brother Hermanus Koekkoek the Younger. In England, he painted landscapes near Guildford, akin to his cousin Pieter Hendrik Koekkoek. The latter part of his life remains shrouded in obscurity.

John Edward Bale, was born at Low Farm House, Pattesley-cum-Oxwick,
South Creake, Norfolk on 27 July and baptised at South Creake on
1 August 1834, eldest child of John Edward Bale (1803-27 April 1862),
a farmer of 620 acres, and his wife Mary née Branford,
who married at Horningtoft, Norfolk on 27 November 1833. In 1841,
a 6 year old, living at Low Farm with his parents, 35 year old John and
28 year old Mary, and his two sisters, Mary 3 and Esther 1. In 1861,
a 26 year old 'artist architecture' boarding at 11 Bulstrode Street,
Marylebone, London but in October 1863, he was an Ensign by purchase
in the 1st West Indian Regiment. As a lieutenant, whilst on a tour of
duty in West Africa, Surgeon Major Augustus Frederick Elliott (born 1834),
kept a diary (now at Duke University Library) which is embellished with
calligraphy and watercolour titles by Bale. During this tour, Bale was
promoted to Captain and retired from the army in 1881 with the rank of major.
Bale married at Christ Church, Ealing on 10 November 1868,
Charlotte Gordon Lee née Johnson (c1847-1910).
A painter in oil and watercolour and a member of the Ipswich
Fine Art Club 1886-1890 and as Major Bale exhibited from 9 Creffield Terrace,
