Lawrence Schiller only remembers the 60s in this way: Fast. As in: Blur. Which is, for those who lived through it, as accurate a description as one is likely to find about the decade that began with optimism and ended in chaos. It was ten years of turmoil and exploration. And through this turbulent and tumultuous decade, it often seemed that whenever a headline-making news event occurred, Lawrence Schiller was there. Schiller was not just lucky to be in the right place at the right time; he was prescient. He was there to cover the event, to add to it, to help us see it, to aid its meaning and its depth. "It was a time in which things happened awfully fast," Schiller says of the decade. "It was a wild, wild period; an uncontrolled period. I don’t think you had any sense of perspective in the 60s. You had to wait and look back at it, because it was a period in which things were happening that had no rhyme or reason to it. But by the end of the ‘60s I had covered so many stories, had so many magazine covers, I had somehow become part of that decade’s history. And I already had my eye on the future."
When Lawrence Schiller got the assignment from the French magazine, Paris Match to photograph Marilyn Monroe on the 20th Century Fox set of Something’s Got to Give, he thought nothing of it. It wasn’t to be a private, studio shoot. He wasn’t going to set up lights, create backgrounds, or use a tripod. Just another assignment, he figured. Monroe by then was firmly established as a figment in the imagination of most young men. The orphan Norma Jean had recreated herself as the blonde bombshell Marilyn Monroe. She’d appeared in twenty-nine films by the time Schiller photographed her in black and white and color in May, 1962. The world was unprepared for the moment when Marilyn jumped in the swimming pool in a flesh-colored bikini and came up out of the water au natural. Arthur Fellig, better known as Weegee (1899-1968) was a ground-breaking, successful (and notorious) photojournalist. His images shot on the streets of New York City are iconic and influential.
In the 1930s he became the first New York City press photographer to obtain permission to install a police radio in his car. This allowed him to follow the city's first responders and to document their duties; responding to fire, crime, debauchery and of course, murder.
By the early 1940s Weegee was experiencing fatigue with crime reportage. Ironically, this was also the point when he finally began experiencing professional validation and acclaim, to the point of being a minor celebrity. Notably in 1941 he was included in The MoMA's seminal "50 Photographs by 50 Photographers" (curated by Edward Steichen). The museum would also acquire five Weegee photographs...

The Beatles at Abbey Road Studios, March 30th 1967 during the recording of Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, take a lunch break. Later that day they after recording they made their way to Michael Cooper's Flood Street Studios to pose for the famous album cover.
This is an original traditional silver gelatin print signed by the photographer, printed in 2008 for inclusion in Herrmann's sol show The Unseen Beatles at The Saint Giles Street Gallery in Norwich. Though is says 1/25 the other prints in the edition were never printed and this image is not available anywhere else.
Rare image hand printed.

This print is embossed with the photographers stamp, numbered and signed by the photographer Frank Herrmann in pencil on lower right margin.
Frank Herrmann is widely regarded as one of the outstanding photojournalists of the latter part of the twentieth century, with an illustrious thirty year career at The Sunday Times.
Covering stories as diverse as the UDI in Rhodesia in 1966, the Paris riots in ’68, the Yom Kippur War of '73, the U.S Presidential elections of ’75 and the birth of Zimbabwe in 1980, he has travelled to Africa with Bob Geldof to record the famine relief work of Band Aid, has been to the South Pole to photograph the trans-Arctic expedition and has worked with Hunter Davies on several books including The Glory Game and Great Britain – a Celebration as well as his text book book on portraiture titled Portrait photography.
His many portrait sittings include, amongst others, Orson Welles, Maggie Smith, Sean Connery, William Burroughs, Winston Churchill, Duke Ellington, Harold Macmillan, Ronald Reagan, Arthur Miller, Samuel Beckett, Henry Moore, Judi Dench...
