Monica Vitti - Vintage Photo - 1960s
Located in Roma, IT
Monica Vitti is a vintage black and white photo of the italian actres, realized in 1960s. L'agenzia Nazionale Stampa Associata (ANSA) Monica Vitti is born in Rome on November 3, 1931. Admitted in 1950 to the Academy of Dramatic Art (where she will return in 1986 as a teacher), and graduated in 1953, she immediately tackles the scenes in L'avaro di Molière (1954), The island of the parrots of S. Tofano (1954), They founded a city of C. Meano (1954), Mother Courage and her children of B. Brecht (1954). Between 1956 and 1959 she also participated in television broadcasts and acted in numerous adaptations of famous theatrical texts. She made her film debut playing secondary parts in Laugh, Laugh, Laugh! by E. Anton, 1955; A mink coat by G. Pellegrini, 1956; Le dritte di M. Amendola, 1958. Dubbing actress of Il scido di M. Antonioni (1957), she meets the director who, after having directed her to the theater in I am a camera by J. Van Druten (1957) and in Secret Scandals by Antonioni and E. Bartolini (1957), he calls her as the protagonist in L'avventura (1960), a film with which V. is a leading actress. Always led by Antonioni, from now on she will play suffering characters who embody a profound crisis of feelings. Apart from a brief television parenthesis (a transposition of the short story The White Nights by F. Dostoevskij, directed by V. Cottafavi), La notte (1961), L'eclisse (1962) and Deserto rosso (1963) belong to a happy partnership with Antonioni (who will be revived episodically for the production of The Mystery of Oberwald [1980], a courageous experiment of intertwining cinema and electronic techniques, propitiated by the exhumation of a play by J. Cocteau, L'aigle à deux têtes). In the second half of the Sixties, however, the producers showed that they preferred her as an actress endowed with caricatural flair, fine humor, vitalistic exuberance, communicative immediacy; and audiences pay her a growing success, not always corresponding to the quality of her filmography or the variety of her interpretations, among which are the very convincing ones in Modesty Blaise...

Elaine's Kitchen - Andy Warhol and Elaine, New York, 1976
Located in New York, NY
Elaine's Kitchen - Andy Warhol and Elaine, New York, 1976 Photographed by Jonathan Becker Contemporary 14" x 14.5" Platinum & Palladium Print Edition Nº 1 of 3 Certificate of Origin Signed and Titled by the Photographer in Edition and Emboss-stamped in the Margin/Recto Printing & Edition Notes along with Copyright Stamp and Applicable Providence on Verso Printed by hand at the photographer's studio in the traditional Platinum & Palladium process on 100% cotton rag paper. Platinum & Palladium prints are known for their unrivaled longevity and unparalleled subtlety. Print cost includes wrapping/packing/crating for shipment in double-tubing. ______ Jonathan Becker (Steven Kasher Gallery bio by Mark Rozzo) Literate flair, acute visual intuition, love of mischief and spontaneity, and global wanderlust: These are among the hallmarks of the work of Jonathan Becker, whose photography spans four decades and includes iconic portraits (often for Vanity Fair) of a multiplicity of subjects, including Robert Mapplethorpe, Martha Graham, Madonna, Elia Kazan, Prince Charles, Eudora Welty, André Leon Talley, Ai Weiwei, Diana Vreeland and Jack Kevorkian. Becker - whose work was first published in Andy Warhol’s Interview in 1973 - was born in 1954 and raised in New York City. In the mid-1970s, he moved for a year to Paris, where he was mentored by his hero, Brassaï. Upon return to New York, Becker drove a cab, toting his camera and parking to complete magazine assignments. A 1981 exhibition of Becker’s work at New York’s Rentschler Gallery included a series of arresting images of patrons taken inside the kitchen at Elaine’s, the storied hangout on New York’s Upper East Side. This exhibition, curated by art director Bea Feitler brought Becker to the attention of Frank Zachary, editor-in-chief of Town & Country. Zachary invited Becker to work for the magazine, where the young photographer further developed his passion for journalistic portraiture alongside Slim Aarons, who, after Brassaï, became Becker’s guiding light. Becker was then enlisted by Bea Feitler to contribute portraits to the prototype of Vanity Fair’s 1983 re-launch. His participation led to a highly prolific association with the magazine as Contributing Photographer, continuing to this day. Becker has also contributed portraits and reportage to The New Yorker, Vogue, W, The Paris Review, amongst truly most major publications. In complement to his editorial work, Becker has accepted a limited number of private and family portrait commissions each year, some accompanied by privately published books, and in the course of his three-years-long project for the Rockefeller Foundation, Becker documented its vast array of philanthropic grant recipients on four continents abroad. Six trade books comprised entirely of Becker’s photographs have been published including Bright Young Things...

Woman Protestor, March on Washington, African-American Civil Rights Photography
Located in New york, NY
Woman Protestor, March on Washington, 1963 by Leonard Freed, is a 14" x 11" gelatin silver photograph, signed and stamped on verso (back of photo) by the estate, Brigitte Freed (wife of the photographer). The photo is in Leonard Freed's book “This Is the Day: The March on Washington'' (p. 50). Leonard Freed enjoyed documentary storytelling and as a "concerned photographer" his work demonstrated humanitarian concerns. The photographer travelled to New York, Washington, D.C., and throughout the South, capturing the daily life of African-Americans. Documenting the 1960s Civil Rights Movement from the East Coast to the Deep South, Freed’s photo essay culminated in the book Black in White America, which contributed to Freed's becoming one of the well-known documentary photographers of 20th Century America. After Freed’s death in 2006 his widow, Brigitte Freed was inspired to compile a book on the March on Washington from her late husband’s archive when she heard then-Senator former President Barack Obama remark to an audience of civil rights activists, “I stand here because you walked.” The March on Washington series is a powerful visual testimony, capturing protests that culminated in Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s “I Have a Dream'' speech, delivered at the base of the Lincoln Memorial. Provenance: Freed archive. *** Artist’s Bio: Leonard Freed (1929-2006) was an American photographer from Brooklyn, New York. His "Black in White America" series made him known as a documentarian, a social documentary photographer. Freed worked as a freelance photographer from 1961 onwards and as a Magnum photographer Freed traveled widely abroad and, in the US, photographing African Americans (1964-65), events in Israel (1967-68, 1973), and the New York City police department (1972-79). Freed's coverage of the American civil rights...
