Brice Marden's Studio Offset lithograph poster (hand signed by Brice Marden in 2015) This print was published on the occasion of Brice Marden's 1996 exhibition at the Matthew Marks Gallery in Chelsea, New York City. I present it as an open situation rather than a closed situation. —Brice Marden Brice Marden (1938–2023) continuously refined and extended the traditions of lyrical abstraction. Experimenting with self-imposed rules, limits, and processes, and drawing inspiration from his extensive travels, Marden brought together the diagrammatic formulations of Minimalism, the immediacy of Abstract Expressionism, and the intuitive gesture of calligraphy in his exploration of gesture, line, and color. Born in Bronxville, New York, Marden received an MFA from Yale University’s School of Art and Architecture, where his teachers included the painters Alex Katz and Jon Schueler. After graduation he worked as a guard at the Jewish Museum in New York. There, during a 1964 Jasper Johns retrospective, Marden studied Johns’s early works extensively and considered them in relation to the Baroque masters he has long admired, such as Francisco de Zurbarán, Francisco Goya, and Diego Velázquez. Marden’s paintings from the 1960s include subtle, shimmering monochromes in gray tones, sometimes assembled into multipanel works, in a manner similar to the black paintings and White Paintings of Robert Rauschenberg, who hired Marden as a studio assistant in 1966. A trip to Greece in the early 1970s led Marden to create the Hydra paintings (1972), which capture the turquoise hues of the Mediterranean, and Thira (1979–80), a painting composed of eighteen interconnected panels inspired by the shadows and geometry of ancient temples. To heighten the effect of each color, plane, and brushstroke, Marden developed the unique process of adding beeswax and turpentine to oil paint and applying the mixture in many thin layers. Marden employed this technique for the Grove Group paintings (1972–76)—exhibited at Gagosian’s Madison Avenue gallery in New York in 1991, along with related works—and the Red Yellow Blue paintings...

This mixed media viscosity monotype displays all of the unique skill and painterly touch of the artist, who draws her inspiration from the natural beauty that surrounds her on her home of Maui. Linda works in a printmaking style called viscosity monotype, although she is trained in the traditional form of Intaglio printmaking. Her works are a story of color and mood, She continues to paint scenes around the island of Maui and further abstracts them in her studio using the printmaking process. Size 80 x 60 cm, with a 5 cm white border, the condition is good, it will be shipped rolled in a hard tube. Artist info: Gfeller + Hellsgård is an artist duo working in Berlin. They've created an unique painterly screen-print-style which includes colour overlaps, smudges, bleeding, glitches and transparencies. In 1995 while studying at Ecole Supérieur des Arts Décoratifs de Strasbourg, Christian Gfeller (born 1973, Alsace) started publishing screen-printed graph'zines and artists' books under the moniker Bongoût (good taste). Bongoût found it's roots in the french D.I.Y art punk scene and, together with an handful of people, also organised concerts, party's and performances in an old warehouse named Lactina in Kehl, across the Rhine from France. The location became cult with its first techno parties, noise concerts and art performances, as well as exhibitions. Christian's first screen-print studio was located in Lactina and beside zine and book making, he designed and printed posters for the events as well as record covers for the cult garage trash punk label Yakisakana Rcds. In 2000, FLTMSTPC in Paris published a polaroid book by Christian, where this vivid time at Lactina was well documented. During this period Christian also played in several local bands: Pitfall, Elcamino and The Cheeraks. Christian Gfeller met Anna Hellsgård (born 1980, Stockholm) at a concert in Berlin on September 11th 2001. After Anna's short art study at Konstskolan in Stockholm, she was eager to develop her photographic interest and become an assistant to a commercial photographer for 2 years. In the meantine Anna also was Dj-ing in several clubs and bars in Stockholm. A vague memory from 1991 of her first Berlin visit and her music interest draw her to move to Berlin in 2001. There she continued with her B/W photographs and shot hundreds of pictures during her first time in Berlin. When she met Christian, she got immediately drawn to the french underground scene and its subversive graphic art content. Whenever she visited Christian in Strasbourg she would help him with his printing at the Lactina studio. In 2002 the couple moved to Bordeaux and built up a screen-print studio there. This is where they started to work full time together as an artist-duo, publishing their own zines, artist's books as well as designing gig posters and record covers. The year and a half in Bordeaux was very prolific and they grounded together a strong artistic direction and a unique style. Bongoût editions continued to grow there as well.The artist-duo produced over 40 screen-printed books in collaboration with other artists during this time. In 2004 they decided to move back to Berlin, and relocated their studio to the Friedrichshain neighbourhood.
