About the Item

Artist's proof, printed on antique laid paper, large margins, representing an antique marble vase, whose details are described in the ending note. The piece is dedicated to “Sir Guglielmo Constable, English Cavaliere, patron of fine arts, as a mark of profound respect, Cavaliere Gio. Batta. Piranesi D.D.D.”. Not signed. In very good condition. Lightly browned with normal foxing, and some tiny marks, very tiny holes on the higher margin. Left side slightly dammaged. Image Dimensions : 53.2 x 38.5 cm Undoubtedly Piranesi was one of the most important engravers in 18th century even if he was well-known as an architect and an archaeologist: the greatest engraver in the period from Rembrandt a Goya. The generations after him have continued to imagine the Ancient Rome as the artist has portrayed his magnificent in "Vedute". References: L.
