Pablo Picasso, the Illustrated Books: Catalogue Raisonné. Patrick Cramer, 1983, illustration 92. Picasso, Pablo, and Fernand Mourlot. Picasso Lithographs, Translated by Jean Didry, Boston Book and Art Publisher, 1970, illustration 259. Notes: From the album, Le Ballet, 1954. Published by Librairie Hachette, Paris, and Arts du Monde, Paris; printed by Mourlot Frères, Paris, in an edition of X̅, 1954. Excerpted from the album (translated from French), I have always dreamed with Christian Bérard of dedicating a book on ballet to the memory of Serge de Diaghilere. Christian Bérard is dead. I dedicate this book to the memory of Sergei Diaghilev and of Christian Bérard. PABLO PICASSO (1881-1973) Spanish painter and sculptor is one of the most recognized figures of twentieth century art. During his artistic career, which lasted more than 75 years, he created thousands of works using all kinds of mediums. He changed art more profoundly than any other artist of his time. First famous for pioneering cubism, Picasso continued to develop his art with a pace and vitality comparable to the accelerated technological and cultural changes of the twentieth century. Each change embodied a radical idea, and might be said that Picasso lived several artistic lifetimes.
