Daniel Pollera was born in 1953 in the coastal town of Freeport, New York. His interest in art began at a very young age, gravitating toward drawing and painting the surrounding coastline of Long Island. After a short study at SUNY Farmingdale in Commercial Art, he left to enter the family business.
For almost 15 years, Daniel took a sabbatical from painting, but this didn’t affect his love for the sea. He obtained a Captain’s License in 1977 from the United States Coast Guard and took passengers for hire on the open ocean. Through this experience and visual knowledge he was drawn to begin painting again. Although Daniel was primarily self-taught, he worked with Frances Norris Streit, a portrait and mural artist, assisting her on a 14’ x 30’ historical mural for the Roslyn Savings Bank. He also studied with Everett Molinari, a well-respected President of the National Mural Society. Museum collections include Long Island Museum, Parrish Art Museum, and Guild Hall Museum.

André Jacquemin was born in Epinal, France in 1904. While attending art school in Paris he studied under Charles Walter, where he learnt the techniques of etching and practiced by copying the most famous artists and visited all the museums to learn more about the masterpieces of past and present. In 1925, he underwent military service at Fort de Domont outside Paris together with Louis-Joseph Soulas and Edouard Mac-Avoy. Four years later, with a few other up-and-coming artists including Yves Alix, Amédée de la Patellière and Jacques Villon, André Jacquemin founded "la jeune Gravure Contemporaine", a society of Printmakers.
In 1930, he simultaneously received the Foundation Florence Blumenthal prize and an allowance to go on a study trip from Spain to Morocco for 14 months. Back from Morocco, his career developed very rapidly. At the beginning of 1932, he exhibited his work at the Simonson gallery. It was a success: he sold everything he had done in Morocco and Spain. The same year, he was elected as a fellow of the French Society of Painter-Etchers/Engravers (Peintres Graveurs Français). In 1936, he was awarded the national arts prize, given for the first time to an etcher. An ink on paper, Nishiki-e and Yoko-e woodblock landscape showing a view of travelers crossing the Ōi River at Kanaya, circa 1850. Signed in Kanji center right, "Hiroshige Ga" for Utagawa (Ando) Hiroshige (Japanese, 1797-1858) and printed circa 1946 by Gihachiro Okuyama (1907-1981). An exceptionally crisp image with fresh color, printed on traditional Washi paper and showing delicate bokashi gradation of sumi ink in the foreground, horizon and upper sky. Sheet Dimensions: 10.25 H x 15.25 W inches.
The procession from a previous print emerges from the river, having completed its crossing. Porters lie down to rest after the river crossing, while a large crew of men struggle to move a particularly heavy palanquin (presumably containing a daimyo) across the home stretch...
