If this room were rendered in charcoal or gouache, the precision of its layout would still stand out like a clear glass of water. And no wonder: André Mellone is an exceptional draftsman as well as a talented interior designer. He has orchestrated a who’s who of 20th-century design in this São Paulo living room for a client in love with the mid-century modern vibe.
Mellone’s heady international mix includes a Frank Lloyd Wright Usonian desk, an Adolf Loos three-legged stool, a Ray and Charles Eames screen and seating from a trio of French masters: Pierre Chareau, Jean Royère and Mathieu Matégot. The artist’s unifying touch? A custom carpet in the manner of all-American trailblazer Marion Dorn.
