House and garden — the two have always had a cozy, even familial relationship. But which takes priority in the client’s mind? In the case of this Greenwich, Connecticut, house’s private study, surrounded by greenery on three sides, it’s impossible to guess: Designer Victoria Hagan has channeled the garden’s golden, dappled sunlight into decorating choices that she layers with total refinement.

An antique Tabriz carpet provides the foundation, while warm textured fabrics cover sofa and chairs. The standout French antique, a circa 1948 polished mahogany desk chair, is covered in a Fortuny leopard print and tucked beneath a custom onyx desk the color of butterscotch. The finishing touch? A 20th-century Swedish table lamp by Elis Bergh.
