Riessner & Kessel Amphora Turn Teplitz Two-Handled Vase with Iridized Glaze
By Reissner Stellmacher & Kessel
Located in Cincinnati, OH
This striking amphora Art Nouveau vase was made in the Turn-Teplitz region of Bohemia by Riessner, Stellmacher & Kessel, established in 1892. The vase has an ovoid form with a thick molded floral and foliate band located at the neck. The body of the vase rests upon a raised pedestal foot decorated with a series of intertwined stylized roots. The neck and foot have been glazed in a matte green color with burnished gold highlights. The body of the vase is flanked by a pair of arched gilded handles made in the form of naturalistic woody branches.
The body of the vase has been finished in a mottled matte glaze executed in a dull gold color enabling the cream color beneath to show through. The center of the vase transitions to a violet hue which is covered by a high glaze iridescent band having pink and purple undertones. The iridescent band features an armorial crest executed in black accented with gilded details. The crest itself consists of a checkerboard shield surmounted by a trio of stylized flowers with a spade motif, all of which are flanked by lions rampant. The design includes a series of large dots arrayed in a symmetrical manner. The opposite side of the vase echoes the motif found on the front and has a checkerboard shield, nine spade-shaped flowers and several dots.
The vase is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks or repairs. As an antique item, the piece shows minor signs of age and use consisting of wear to the gilded decoration. The vase stands 11.75" tall and is 2.25" across the mouth. The foot is just over 5" in diameter and bears impressed marks including a circular ''Imperial Amphora Turn...

Moorcroft Art Pottery 'Fuchsia' Footed Lamp with Lightolier Glass Reflector Bowl
By Lightolier, Moorcroft Pottery
Located in Cincinnati, OH
This striking English art pottery lamp was made by the renowned Moorcroft Pottery company of Burslem, Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire. Initially with James Macintyre & Co., innovative ceramist William Moorcroft founded his own firm in 1913. Underwritten by retailer Liberty London, the company went from strength to strength and was granted a Royal Warrant by Queen Mary in 1928, leading them to include the phrase ‘Potter To HM The Queen’ on their paper labels as well as in their impressed marks. William's son Walter joined the firm in 1935 and took over management and design responsibilities upon the death of his father in 1945. Moorcroft remains in business today with early pieces by William and Walter being particularly sought after.
This Walter Moorcroft signed lamp has a traditional pear or bottle vase form which has been decorated in the 'Fuchsia' pattern. The body of the lamp has a variegated blue/blue-green background featuring Moorcroft's distinctive slip-trailing technique. The leaves and blossoms have been finished in bright jewel tones.
The body of the lamp has been joined to a metal base having a milgrain edge and four scrolling feet. The top of the lamp has a simple metal cap topped by a decorative foliate band. The piece retains its original Lightolier reflector bowl, patented by Jacob Samuel Hamel in March of 1950. The reflector bowl has a frosted body which attaches to the lamp by Virtue of three screws. The lamp comes complete with a silk shade manufactured by Royal Knight...

Pre 1945 Georg Jensen Sterling Silver Tazza Compote 263B, Grape Motif
By Georg Jensen
Located in Cincinnati, OH
This fabulous Georg Jensen sterling silver tazza features Jensen's iconic grape motif, a celebrated range of pieces which were inspired by the Art Nouveau aesthetic coupled with time the artist spent traveling in Italy.
Georg Jensen was born in 1866 and trained as a sculptor at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, graduating in 1892. Jensen began his artistic career in ceramics and started working with silver in 1904. He went on to establish his own smithy in Copenhagen and like many others working during the Art Nouveau period, was strongly influenced by natural forms and structure found in flowers and plants.
As mentioned above, Jensen spent time in Italy shortly after the turn of the century and developed an appreciation for ancient Roman silver work. He was also struck by the work of more recent Italian artists and was particularly influenced by those pieces which drew upon classical mythology, such as Baroque painter Caravaggio's 'Bacchus'. Jensen combined these influences with emerging Art Nouveau organic motifs, leading him to utilize the malleable qualities of silver to create his renowned Grape Collection.
This form of this silver tazza was initially designed by Jensen in 1918. The piece has a round pedestal foot which rises to a thick columnar stem reminiscent of the twisting trunk...

19th Century Minton’s Art Pottery Studio Kensington Gore Hand-Painted Charger
By Minton
Located in Cincinnati, OH
This large hand-painted charger was made by Mintons Art Pottery Studio of Kensington Gore, London. The studio traces its origins to the renowned earthenware and fine bone china factory Minton, located in Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire England. Colin Minton Campbell, descendant of founder Thomas Minton, took over company management in 1858 and went on to establish Mintons Art Pottery Studio in 1871 for the purpose of hand decorating pottery and tiles. The studio initially operated under the direction of painter and book illustrator William Stephen Coleman and drew upon the talents of artists studying at the Kensington's National Art Training School, now known as the Royal College of Art, as well as those of well-regarded Continental artists. The company was short lived as it was destroyed by an accidental fire in 1875 and was not rebuilt.
This large earthenware charger has been hand-painted in polychrome enamel and depicts two young children at play in the nursery. The scene includes multiple colors and textures and features a cherubic toddler seated upon a bed alongside a young girl standing on a blue footstool...
