This magnificent engraving depicts a fishing scene in the middle of a landscape with lush vegetation. In the foreground of this scene is a man standing fishing. He discovered his talent for drawing at the age of eight and became a pupil of his father Gerard ter Borch, known as "the old man". The Dutch painter Hendrick Avercamp supported Terburg.
