Nice pair of large engravings by Bernard Bailliu is a representation of the work done by Peter of Cortona on the ceiling of the Venus Room in the Pitti Palace. Here are presented 2 of the 4 corners of this room. This engraving focuses only on the composition of the ceiling of this room, so only the mouldings and the stucco are shown.
Interesting ornamental and architectural elements made around 1677. It is published by Giovanni Gicomo de Rossi, in Rome.

Bernard de Bailliu is a French engraver. He trained and worked for his father Pieter de Bailliu. He entered the academy of Saint Luke in Antwerp. In 1688 he left for Rome and joined a group of Flemish and Dutch artists there. He is mainly known for his engraved portraits of cardinals (series of 81 portraits). He is a reproduction engraver specialising mainly in portraits and historical scenes.
Peter of Cortona is the designer of this composition in the Pitti Palace and is an Italian painter and architect of the 17th century. He is defined as belonging to the early Baroque movement. He is mainly known for his fresco work. His most famous work is "The Triumph of Divine Providence" also called "The Glory of the Barbirini." His work in the Venus Hall is a tribute to the Medici.
