Geometric pendant brooch designed by Hans Richter (1888-1976).
Very rare piece of wearable Dadaism art, created by the artist sculptor Hans Richter, back in the 1971. This piece is part of a limited edition of only 9 sculptures, carefully crafted with geometric squared and curved patterns in solid yellow gold of 18 karats with very high polished finish. Fitted at the reverse with a hinged pin bar to wear as a brooch and a curved bale to wear in a chain or necklace.
Weight: 66.6 Grams, (40.77 Dwt).
Measurements: 55 mm by 55 mm x 10 mm (2.16 x 2.16 x 0.39 Inches).
Hallmarks: Stamped with the maker's mark, the edition number, the editorial house and signed in script by artist., "HANS RICHTER 1/9 1971 .750 GM 18KT HR-1"
Hans Richter (1888-1976) was a German Dada painter, graphic artist, avant-garde film producer, and art historian. In 1965 he authored the book Dadaism about the history of the Dada movement. He was born in Berlin into a well-to-do family and died in Minusio, near Locarno, Switzerland. From Expressionism through Dadaism, Constructivism and Neoplasticism, he was one of the major figures of avant-garde art in the 1910s and 1920s and a catalyst for intellectuals and artists in many disciplines. Richter helped organise exhibitions which revived interest in Dada, both in the United States and Europe. In 1956 he made Dadascope, a film dedicated to Dada poetry.
Richter moved from Switzerland to the United States in 1940 and became an American citizen. Beginning in 1941 he taught at the Institute of Film Techniques at the City College of New York before taking over as director. While living in New York City, Richter directed two feature films, Dreams That Money Can Buy (1947) and 8 x 8: A Chess Sonata in 8 Movements (1957) in collaboration with Max Ernst, Jean Cocteau, Paul Bowles, Fernand Léger, Alexander Calder, Marcel Duchamp, and others, which was partially filmed on the lawn of his summer house in Southbury, Connecticut. In 1957, he finished a film entitled Dadascope with original poems and prose spoken by their creators: Hans Arp, Marcel Duchamp, Raoul Hausmann, Richard Huelsenbeck, and Kurt Schwitters. After 1958, Richter spent parts of the year in Ascona and Connecticut and returned to painting. Peggy Guggenheim organized his first solo show in the United States in which his large painted scrolls, inspired by the Second World War, featured prominently. In 1963, he directed the short film From the Circus to the Moon about the American artist Alexander Calder. In 1965, Richter was also the author of a first-hand account of the Dada movement titled Dada: Art and Anti-Art which also included his reflections on the emerging Neo-Dada artworks.

This impeccable design is composed by 10 rectangular links embellished in the center, with 10 squared carvings of natural palisander wood. The sides are mounted with 80 calibrated oval cabochons cuts (4 x 5 x 6 mm) of natural fire opals, with a combined weight of 60 carats.
Have a total weight of 94.6 Grams and fit a wrist up to 6.25 Inches (16 Cm).

This elegant rounded pin brooch is one of the earliest examples made by the famous jewelry house of Hayden W. Wheeler & Co. It was carefully crafted with impeccable attention to details in solid .900/.999 platinum and is suited with an horizontal hinged bar with a security mechanical lock. Is embellished with a great selection of diamonds and sapphires and the gemstones settings are finished with the popular millegrain patterns.
The main gemstone is one very fine European round rose cut diamond of 0.75 carats, white colorless E color and VS-1 clarity.
Surrounded by a calibrated French pave setting composed by 60 graduated European rose cut diamonds with a total weight of 2.71 carats, E/F color, VS-2 clarity.
Accented with three channel settings stations, that are mount with 29 caliber French cut of natural vivid royal blue sapphires, with a combined weight of 0.87 carats. Most probably these sapphires are from the Kashmir or the Pailin regions.
Has a total weight of 9.3 Grams and a diameter of 37 mm (1.46 Inches).
Stamped with the maker's mark inside two circled cartouche, the hallmark for the assay of the platinum and signed, "H W PLAT".

This convertible oversized Maltese pendant-brooch has been carefully assembled with elements crafted in solid yellow gold of 18 karats, with brushed, satined, textured and polished finish, creating a great surfaces contrast. It is suited at the reverse, with a hinged double pins with a trombone security lock to wear as a brooch and a removable retractable piece to wear as a pendant.
Although this design had already been used for more than 2000 years since ancient times, fashion and jewelry houses such as Verdura, Channel and Bvlgari integrated this very popular model into their designs. Being since then an icon of high fashion. One of the most iconic pieces of jewelry depicting a Maltese cross, was designed by Fulco Di Verdura (1899-1978) in 1920, when he created the iconic Maltese cross cuff bracelet for his friend Coco Chanel.
It is embellished, with 17 colorful gemstones having a total combined weight of 106.86 carats, they are individually described as follow;

Four-prong set, with 4 round cabochon cut (5 mm) of natural Italian red coral, with a total of 3 carats.
Bezel set, with 4 round cabochon cut (10 x 10 x 8 mm) of Afghani green chrysoprase, with a total weight of 22.88 carats.
Bezel set, with 4 oval cabochon cut (12 x 20 x 8 mm) of Hungarian greenish malachite, with a total weight of 58.08 carats.
It is pretty heavy and large, with a total weight of 104.2 Grams and a measurements of 95 mm by 89 mm (3.75 by 3.5 Inches).
Stamped, with the maker's mark, the hallmark for the assay of the 18kt gold and signed, "INDUSTRIA ARGENTINA 18KT".
Note: The Maltese cross, is a cross symbol, consisting of four "V" or arrowhead shaped concave quadrilaterals converging at a central vertex at right angles, two tips pointing outward symmetrically. A three-dimensional wearable sculptural piece, created in 1963-65 by the famous Italian architect and sculptor Arnaldo Pomodoro. It was crafted, with architectural patterns and geometrics elements in solid 18 karats of textured yellow gold, with white gold accents.
This piece is composed by two parts; the articulated collar necklace and the intricate pendant-brooch. The collar has 6 free forms elements, attached together with several pins connectors and is suited with a curved boxed push lock.
The pendant can be used alone in a chain and can be also wear as a brooch, since is suited with a vertical hinged bar and a trombone lock for extra security.
The main element is embellished with 16 natural and not treated gemstones, described as follow; thirteen French squared cuts of red Burma rubies, with a weight of 1.95 carats and three straight baguettes cuts of vivid green Colombian emeralds, with a combined weight of 1 carat.
The total weight of this piece is 70.45 grams and the necklace have an inside diameter of 17.25 inches.
The main element has a measures of 97 mm (3.82 inches) height, by 55 mm (2.17 inches) width, by 8 mm (0.31 inch) thickness.
It is sign at the verso in full by the artist and dated, "Arnaldo Pomodoro 1963-65".
Arnaldo Pomodoro, born in Morciano, Italy in 1926, is a sculptor, stage designer and architect. Between the 1950 and 1954 he worked primarily as a jeweler and stage designer with his brother Gio Pomodoro in Pesaro, Italy and began his first work in relief, which are characterized by a rough surface quality with detailed vegetal organic forms. the fine detailing of his jewelry later appeared in his bronze monumental sculptures. He have 94 years and live in Milan, Italy.
In 1953 Arnaldo and Giò, together with their fellow artist and close friend, Giorgio Perfetti (1932- 1961), formed the “3p” group and produced original jewels and small reliefs, which were first exhibited that year in Pesaro. The following year they moved to Milan and opened a small studio in a basement in Via Visconti Di Modrone. Here they met artists such as Enrico Baj, Sergio Dangelo, Lucio Fontana, as well as influential collectors and critics including Peggy Guggenheim and Guido Ballo who greatly appreciated their art.
