1990S GIANNI VERSACE Istante Cotton Baroque Floral Printed Skirt Suit With Gold Buttons

This vintage Thierry Mugler bouclé wool jacket and skirt set is giving a very Cher from Clueless vibe. Thierry Mugler and his work have been the subject of countless museum retrospective for a reason: he is responsible for defining the fashion landscape of the late 1980s and early 1990s, with his unabashedly feminine, sensual, borderline-campy perspective. Circa 1980s, this suit is crafted from a wonderful wool bouclé in a vibrant shade of tangerine orange. The fabric has a beautiful slub to it. The jacket is complete with Mugler's signature exaggerated lapels, with a deep V giving way to a nipped waist, creating a flattering hourglass shape, along with the dropped shoulders. The jacket has a cropped silhouette making it perfect for mixing and layering with so many other pieces. This set is so well made, with so many intricate design details: flattering topstitching at the lapels and the curved detail at the hem accentuate the shapes. The skirt has a very fitted shape, with a high waist and shaping seams down the front and darts at the back. The jacket is lined while the skirt is not; the skirt closes with a zipper and 2 snaps at waistband. Made in France of 100% wool. This enchanting 1990s printed silk 2 piece set is comprised of a simple shift dress and bolero to be worn as either as an ensemble or separates. The aesthetic is playful, summery and feminine and presents easily as formal or informal attire. The soft ivory silk is slightly embossed with an irregular texture atop a vibrant rose print design in sugar pink, canary yellow, sapphire blue and emerald green. The dress is sleeveless and broad straps are gathered at the shoulders. The full circle skirt is gathered into tight uniform pleats below the waist and flares generously to the calf. The hem is fluted in yellow satin to match the pretty satin rosette embellishments that feature on the waistband and atop of each shoulder. The bodice is lined in ivory silk. The jacket has three quarter length sleeves which are gathered at the shoulder and the cuff to create an understated fairytale puff. The wide cuffs are embellished with satin rosettes to complement those on the dress, and the seams are fluted in matching yellow ribbon. This piece has a collarless round neck and falls into a central button stand which curves at the hem and hosts 4 x yellow lucite buttons. Tailoring below the bust brings the jacket neatly in at the waist when fastened, and a pretty peplum flares out over the hips. The peplum detail becomes more exaggerated at the reverse, where it is gathered into pleats to mirror the skirt.
