19th Century Japanese Cloisonné Small Lidded Jar, Early Meiji Period

About the Item

This is a very decorative cloisonné small lidded jar, made in Japan and dating to the 19th century, early Meiji period, circa 1875 or possibly earlier. The jar has a good shape of a compressed globular form with a short neck and standing on three short feet. The round form has been very well made of a bronze alloy with rich enamels of many different colors. The main decoration is finely detailed having many different flowers all around the body with three butterflies, all set against a dark green ground. There are borders at the lower body and neck, with further excellent detail to the base which has a central stylised flower set between the feet. The lid has further Fine decoration with borders leading to a central flower head knob to the top of the lid. Overall a very finely decorated piece of Japanese Cloisonne.
