Pair of Antique English Bushel Measures with Iron Bands, Rustic Decor
Located in Atlanta, GA
This pair of antique English bushel measures brings a sense of rustic charm and historical authenticity to any space. Crafted in wood with black-painted iron bands, these 19th- to early 20th-century grain measures were once essential for weighing and transporting dry goods in markets and farms. The stamped "Bushel" marking, accompanied by a crown and "GR" insignia, signifies their government certification for accuracy in trade. Worn patina and subtle signs of age tell the story of their use, making them not just functional but also deeply rooted in history. Perfect for today’s interiors, these oversized vessels make striking decorative accents. Fill them with firewood beside a hearth, or use them as rustic planters for greenery in a country kitchen or garden. Their deep, circular form lends itself well to creative storage—think rolled-up throws in a cozy living room or even as unconventional side tables when topped with a round tray. Whether styled in a traditional home or adding contrast to a modern space, these antique measures...

Pair of Gilt Bronze Regency Firedogs, Attributed To Thomas Hope. England Ca 1803
By Thomas Hope
Located in Incline Village, NV
These firedogs (as they were referred to), while not really serving any utility, would have been used as decoration to enhance the visual aesthetics of the hearth, by being placed one to each side of the fireplace opening. I have attached 20 images to this listing. The last image shows how they would have been used in a fireplace setting. These highly ornate pair of gilt bronze firedogs are quite important and were, more than likely, the design of Thomas Hope (1769-1831), who created elaborate and innovative decorations whose features were influenced by his extensive travel through the Near East, Turkey, Egypt, Greece, and Europe, over a ten year period. He was the foremost interior designer during the Regency period and developed luxurious surroundings for his two lavish London residences during the early 19th century. They were decorated with items of his own design, along with those he had accumulated and collected during his travels. He introduced to the British aristocracy the term "interior design". In terms of collecting, and the acquisition of fine art...

Antique 15th Century English Wrought Iron Lion Coat of Arm Banneret Weathervane
Located in Dayton, OH
An exceptional and rare 15th Century English wrought iron banneret weathervane with lightning rod. Features an ornate arrow and pierced coat of arms or crest with lion. Marked “4 lb” on base. The Rampant Lion with the crown above its head stood for royalty. The Trefoils (2 on there sides and one at the point of the “spear”) stood for longevity and can also represent the Holy Trinity. The 3 Lilies are the precursors to the Fleur-de-lis, and were commonly used to signify purity, loyalty, piety, faith, and can also stand for the Virgin Mary. Purchased from one of the Great Houses of England, where it was on display in their collection. Surely belonging to a royal families home or castle. The “4 lb. base” is something that was added much later, when it was taken off the building it had been on. The base allows it to display nicely. Weathervanes have been around for over 2,000 years, invented by the Greek astronomer Andronicus in 48 B.C. to determine the direction of the wind. The first weathervane – also called a “wind vane...

Pair of Charles II Style Armorial Firedogs
Located in Brighton, West Sussex
A pair of Charles II style, enamel brass and cast iron armorial firedogs, in the manner of Anthony Hatch and Stephen Pilcherd. Each firedog is decorated with red, blue and white enamel, the upperpart bearing the arms of Charles II or James II, the middle part formed of two nude male figures supporting the arms with a vase of flowers between them, the lower portions in the form of two convex disks decorated with flowers, with wrought iron supports. They are modelled after an example in the collections of the Victoria & Albert Museum, London, formerly belonging to the Earl of Cowley. For a long time, their method of production -whereby the fields to be enameled were cast in the original moulds and not, as was more common, engraved (champlévé) or enclosed (cloisonné) - was referred to as Surrey Enamels after the author Charles R. Beard ascribed their manufacture to a factory in Esher, Surrey. However, documentary evidence makes a strong case for their reattribution to the London workshops of Anthony Hatch and Stephen Pilcherd, members of the Armourers' and Braziers' Company (see C. Blair and A. Petterson, 'Details for Surrey Enamels Reattributed (Part 1)', Journal of the Antique Metalware...
