About the Item

Crafted circa 1950 by Tiffany & Co., this stylish and well-constructed sterling silver and cut glass tantalus features two elegantly shaped crystal decanters housed in a streamlined silver frame. The decanters are crafted from brilliant, deeply cut glass in a classic crosshatch pattern and are fitted with plain silver collars. The silver frame incorporates an angular handle and a central upright fitted with a secure clasp and original key, designed to hold the bottles in place when locked. This piece measures 9.75 inches (24.5cm) tall, by 9 inches (22.5cm) wide, and 4.5 inches (11.5cm) deep. Historical Note: Founded in New York in 1837 by Charles Lewis Tiffany, Tiffany & Co. grew from a stationery and fancy goods store into one of the most renowned names in American silver. The firm set the standard for excellence by adopting the .925 sterling silver standard in 1851 and became known for its refined craftsmanship and commitment to quality. The crystal decanters were produced by T.G. Hawkes & Co., one of America’s leading glass manufacturers during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Based in Corning, New York, Hawkes specialised in cut crystal and gained international recognition for its meticulous workmanship and award-winning designs.
