Gilded Mirror, 19th Century French Louis XVI Oval

About the Item

19th century French Louis XVI gilded oval mirror is poised to create a lavish decorative touch to any room, with its elaborate stylized shell, floral and foliate motifs above and below, and subtly embossed frame in between, all surrounding the original oval beveled mirror. Original finish on the frame has also achieved a captivating patina over the past century, accentuating the artistry of the embellishment. It is unusual for the crown and the base to have such prominent decoration, indicating this mirror was probably special ordered, or was an upper end item in the maker's catalogue. Even the frame on the sides exhibits a subtle embossed pattern, with a beaded molding trim immediately adjacent to the mirror glass. With such a keepsake, one can immediately create a focal point in the room as well as enhance ambient light! circa 1880s Measures: 49 H x 32 W x 4D.
