LOUIS SUE AND ANDRE MARE
This rare Art Deco large oval mirror made by Sue and Mare (Louis Sue, 1875-1968, and Andre Mare, 1887-1932) has a frame of hand-carved gilt wood. The upper section has a floral carving with silver gilding that extends to golden vases on the sides, with another floral carving on the bottom section. The original bevelled glass is still intact with minor foxing.
Many of their designs consisted of sumptuous materials, fine craftsmanship, and freshly cut motifs. They made their creations in the limited, exclusive range of small editions or even pieces made for the wealthy people.
Louis Sue and Andre Mare exhibited pieces at the famous 1925 World expo 'Arts Décoratifs' with "Le Musée d'Art Contemporain", they also made the interior of the Pavilion of the French Embassy...
