Stanhope Bed by Michael Graves for Memphis Milano

About the Item

This double bed designed by architect and designer Michael Graves for Memphis Milan in 1982 is an important piece of postmodern design. It also illustrates how Graves himself transferred architectural forms and aesthetics from large-scale projects to the world of small-scale furniture design. With "Stanhope," Graves thought of everything, designing a unique piece that integrates the bed itself, a lighting system and nightstands. The frame can accommodate a European king-size mattress (180 cm x 210 cm - not included) and is decorated with maple burl veneer, lacquered wood, mirror, brass, glass and 20 bulbs (EU 12V 3W). The bed features the original Memphis plaque that reads: MEMPHIS / MILAN / M. Graves / 1982 / MADE IN ITALY and is accompanied by the original certificate of authenticity issued by Memphis. In excellent condition. Bed made of walnut burl, lacquered wood, glass and miniature lamps. Brass and Perspex lamps.
