Ashley Hicks has created a mix of manifesto, souvenir album, and confession in this collection of noteworthy rooms--featuring his own one-of-a-kind interiors along with rooms that have inspired him. The manifesto aspect is rather limited, since Hicks is not a great believer in aesthetic rules or the value of so-called good taste, but as a souvenir album, it charts Hicks's personal creative journey of the last few years, illustrated with photographs of some favorite historical interiors and objects that represent a mixture of source material and inspiration.
The book's twelve chapters reveal Hicks's creative process, how he approaches different themes in his own interiors, furniture designs, and works of art, and how these themes can be applied to the works of others. Such subjects as flowers, color, layers, form, pattern, and memory are presented in the context of actual projects. Historical and recent interiors are discussed for their decorative value--notable rooms and architecture include the Pantheon in Rome; Emperor Maximilian's tomb in Innsbruck; the Royal Pavilion, Brighton; and the Petit Trianon at Versailles. Hicks has created a book for devotees of decorating and the history of interior design.

Ashley Hicks is a British author, architect, interior and furniture designer, and photographer. He is the son of Lady Pamela Hicks and the legendary decorator David Hicks. His personal Instagram profile has amassed over 200,000 followers.

Houses by Thierry W. Despont. Published by Office of Thierry Despont, New York, 1990. 1st Ed hardcover with dust jacket. Private edition with personal letter to Sandra and Herbert Kasper. He was an American fashion designer known as Kasper. He studied English and advertising at New York University and fashion at the Parsons School of Design in New York from 1951–53 and l'Ecole de la Chambre Syndicale de la Couture Parisienne in 1953. He left NYU to serve in the US Army in Europe. After World War II he enrolled at Parsons, where he became a protégé of milliner Fred Frederics. After graduating, he returned to Paris for two years developing his skills in design while working for Jacques Fath, Christian Dior, and Marcel Rochas. When he returned to the US, he worked for Frederics at Mr. John. He was also a famous art collector. He was an avid art collector, and in 2011, the Morgan Library and Museum devoted an exhibition, called “Mannerism and Modernism: The Kasper Collection of Drawings and Photographs,” to the designer.unnumbered copy of a run of 1000. With letter from Despont to his client. Mr. Despont was Associate Architect for the Centennial Restoration of the Statue of Liberty and has completed the restoration of Clayton, the Frick family mansion in Pittsburgh. Mr. Despont designed the Decorative Arts Galleries of the new J. Paul Getty Museum and, in collaboration with Richard Meier, was responsible for the interior design of the museum's sculpture and painting galleries. The office also completed the 50,000 square foot flagship store on Bond Street for Ralph Lauren. In the US, the firm designed the Edmond J. Safra Synagogue on East 63rd Street in New York and the flagship store for Harry Winston in Beverly Hills, California. Mr. Despont and his office have completed several very high end hotel projects. Among them are the renovation of the Carlyle Hotel in New York, Claridge's and The Dorchester in London, and Boca Raton Resort & Club in Florida. Current hotel projects include the renovation of the Ritz Paris, the Dorchester Collection's new 45 Park Lane Hotel in London, The Chatwal in New York, and the Divan Hotel in Istanbul. volume with its own dustjacket. Arguably one of the best dental cabinets ever made, with so many unique features (and forgive the pun) cutting edge technology of the late 19th century. This cabinet was patented in 1899 and made of solid quarter sawn oak throughout, with carved accents above the beveled shaped mirror and carved & pierced brackets to the base with turned ribbed column supports.
The cabinet has a removable travel drawer case for making house calls, to the top of the case is a brass carrying handle and a brass plaque with the manufacturers name and "Patent applied for", making this one of the earliest manufactured of this model.
