About the Item

Place this beautiful gilt statue with base in a living room or bedroom. Hand carved circa 1780, this elegant two-piece antique sculpture was found in a chapel in Southern France and depicts the Virgin Mary and her Son. The alluring polychrome and gilt sculpture in high relief, features Madonna carrying our Lord Jesus Christ with His left arm in movement. Both mother and child gaze downward with arms outstretched in divine compassion. The religious figure has wonderful carving details throughout the gilt dress, brown hair and calm facial expressions. The statue is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, and adorns the original gold leaf and polychrome finish. Measures: Statue: 9"W x 6"D x 21.5"H Base: 10"W x 7"D x 6.25"H.
