An exquisite Japanese sterling silver ornamental bonbon dish, circa 1890-1900. The piece was rendered in the shape of a stemmed branch of chrysanthemum blossom and was made for export market. Both botanically realistic and stylish, the piece showcases a high degree of artisanal sensitivity and technical ability of the silversmith who created this lovely piece. The petals that form the exteriors were outlined with deep and fluid relief lines of sculptural quality. The branches and leaves were rendered with attentions to the smallest details, with molding and surface texturizing using chasing in contrast with hammering. The interior of the dish is equipped with a conforming inner dish and when it is taken out, revealing the chased lines. The piece, although practical, is basically an okimono in sculptural form, a work of art on its own. It weighs about 22 ounces.
Under the dish, it is marked "Pure Silver" in Kanji and SM in a rectangular cartouche. The research (carried out by Adrien Von Ferscht, an expert and author on Asian Export Silver) identified it to be Sadajiro Musashiya...

This exceptional antique Chinese Export Silver box has a subtly undulating rectangular form.
The surface of the box has a planished finish and is embellished with an embossed and chased decorated stemmed floral and foliate design to the anterior surface.
The decoration to the body continues to the cover, incorporating plum blossom arrangements and an impressive perched bird motif.

An exceptional, fine and impressive pair of versatile antique Victorian English sterling silver three-light candelabra; an addition to our ornamental silverware collection
These exceptional antique Victorian sterling silver candelabra have a classical square form to a knopped column onto a stepped swept square foot, in the classic English 18th century style.
Each impressive three light candelabrum retains the original hallmarked detachable push fit scrolling arms embellished with reed decoration.
The branches (labra) support two cylindrical capitals, each encompassed with bands of applied gadroon decoration.
The capitals are fitted with the original hallmarked push fit square sconces, embellished with further gadroon decorated borders to the rims.
Each capital of these Victorian candelabra centrepieces surmounts an impressive square drip pan, featuring identical ornamentation to that of the sconces.
Each silver candelabrum is fitted with a third detachable central elevated capital.
These versatile Victorian candelabra can be used as candlesticks once the arms are detached, alternatively, the labra may be conjoined to form a five-light candelabrum.
The panelled waisted column of each candlestick is encompassed with gadroon decoration to the knops.
The plain square swept foot incorporates a plain sunken well, and is embellished with gadroon decoration to a plain collet style rim.
Both Victorian silver candelabra have weighted bases, as to be expected, and are fitted with the original baize to the underside.

Antique Rookwood Pottery Hand Painted Vessel Gorham Engraved Silver Decoration

This late 19th century glazed earthenware mug was crafted in the studios of Cincinnati Ohio's renowned Rookwood Pottery Company and has a traditional form with an ear-shaped handle having a thumb rest. The exterior of the piece is finished in standard glaze and features hand painted decoration executed by highly regarded artist William Purcell McDonald (1864-1931). The decor has an appealing wine harvest theme consisting of grape vines that snake across the surface. The vines are studded with leaves in various shades of green along with two dangling clusters of plump reddish grapes. McDonald's application of paint is slightly raised in places giving the image a dimensional quality.
The mug is further ornamented with an ornate silver overlay manufactured by Gorham. The silver decoration covers the handle and rim and includes a series of large etched foliate scrolls and flowers that extend across the body. There is also an eye-catching latticed area that provides a strong visual contrast with the gentle curving motifs found on the other parts of the silver overlay.
The underside of the mug has an impressed RP mark along with shape 422 and the letter W. It also carries the incised initials of the artist - W. P. McD - and the letter L. The underside of the silver foot rim is stamped Gorham Manufacturing Co. along with a hand engraved mark reading S 1274 S.

Beautiful and well detailed sculpture, created in Japan during the Meiji dynastic period (1868-1912) back in the 1890's. This piece represent the god of good fortune Ebisu. Was exceptionally carved and executed from one solid single piece of rose wood, showing a gorgeous face expression, with intricate details in the hands and feets, he's carrying as usual a rod and a fish.
Ebisu (yebisu), ???, god of fortune, the ocean and fisherman. In the japanese mythology is one of the seven gods of luck, sichi-fuku-jin, the patron of the fisherman and tradesmen. he is depicted as a bearded, smiling fisherman with formal long court ropes, often carrying a rod in one hand and a tai, symbolic fish of the good luck, in the other.
The height is 14.25 inches (36.20 cm) and the base measurements is 6.5 by 6.45 inches (16.5 x 16.38 cm).
