About the Item

Two rectangular jardinieres, the mounts in blackened wood simulating bamboo in the Archaic Chinese Taste. Each one features four marble plaques around each side. Each plaque is in a different color of marble, red griotte, green campan, black marble etc… Together with its original zinc interior container Napoléon III Period Circa 1900 Composite style born between 1852 and 1870. It has two very different aspects: the copy and the Napoleon III style itself. It consists, especially in the first years, of a collection of the vari-ous previous styles: Louis XIV, furniture Boulle; Louis XV for the furniture: rocaille and gilded wood, Louis XVI for the bedrooms; finally Renaissance for the dining rooms. Little by little it will take its true character: pear-tree blackened, incrust of mother-of-pearl, small furniture, trinkets, upholstered seats. The use of lacquer was a common practice in the Napoleon III furniture of the King’s pre-decessor. The lacquer could be black and thus echoed the taste of the time for Asia, very fashionable in the 2nd part of the 19th century.
