Extremely Fine Weave Persian Nain Habibian in Floral Pattern with Silk Highlight
Located in Barrington, IL
This extremely fine hand knotted Persian Nain rug, crafted in the 4th quarter of the 1900s, showcases the exceptional artistry and technical mastery that define the Habibian workshop—one of the most prestigious names in Nain rug weaving. Set on an elegant ivory field with a soft cream border, this area rug features a delicately balanced floral pattern, enriched with tones of pale blue, French blue, brown, and soft green. The highlight is an exquisite central medallion, distinguished by pale green accents that add depth, movement, and a sense of peaceful luxury. Navy and caramel corner spandrels, filled with graceful floral motifs in baby blue, cream, and brown, frame the composition with subtle contrast. Woven from a wool pile on a cotton foundation, this rug is further elevated by silk highlights that shimmer beautifully in the light—especially throughout the medallion, where the silk lends a vivid three-dimensional effect. The rug’s extremely fine weave and high knot count speak to its quality and collectible value. Signed by the renowned Habibian workshop, this piece is not only a refined decorative centerpiece, but also a timeless investment in Persian textile heritage. Dimensions: 6’ 11” x 10’ 4” Date of Manufacture: 4th Quarter of the 1900s Place of Origin: Persia Material: Wool pile on a cotton foundation with silk highlights Condition: Excellent-New The Persian Knot Gallery, SKU 1242 Nain Floral Carpets, Nain Habibian, Habibian Nain Carpets...

21676 Vintage Persian Shirfar Tabriz Rug, 05'10 x 09'06. Crafted by the skilled hands of Shir Far, a revered master weaver hailing from Tabriz, Iran, this vintage Persian Tabriz rug embodies the essence of exquisite artistry and timeless elegance. Shir Far is renowned for his unparalleled craftsmanship, distinguished by high-quality materials, distinctive designs, and captivating color combinations. His hallmark, a signature cartouche inscription delicately centered within the guard border, serves as a testament to his mastery and attention to detail. Intricately designed with a touch of Rococo opulence, this hand-knotted wool and silk vintage Persian Shirfar Tabriz rug exudes an air of timeless elegance. The allover floral motif, delicately woven in soft pastel hues, evokes a sense of refined grandeur reminiscent of Rococo aesthetics. At the heart of the rug lies a cusped medallion, surrounded by a lush floral featuring blooming palmettes, curled sickle leaves, and cascading arabesque vines adorned with peonies, carnations, and lotus flowers. The medallion's ornate design is further accentuated by dramatic corner spandrels, boasting intricate baroque elements that set the stage for an abundance of flower garlands and organic leafy mounds. Encapsulating the floral medallion is a border adorned with a variation of Rococo-inspired floral motifs, delicately intertwined with inner and outer botanical floral guard bands. The border exudes decadent beauty, framing the rug with a sense of lavishness and refinement characteristic of Rococo design. The dreamy color palette, with its soft pastel tones, adds to the rug's allure, creating a harmonious balance between elegance and subtlety. With its elaborate detailing and sophisticated design, this vintage floral Persian rug...

Vintage Handmade Silk Persian Rugs for Sale on 1stDibs

Make a bold statement in a living room or bedroom by incorporating vintage silk Persian rugs in your home decor.

The fascination with Persian rugs dates at least as far back as the 4th century B.C., when historian Xenophon referred to the “soft rugs on which the Persians sit.” For centuries, Iran (modern-day Persia) has been known for the craftsmanship, intricate patterns and artistry of its carpets, which have found their way into households and museums around the world.

Although they have many imitators, authentic Persian rugs are made only in Iran and are easily recognized by their vibrant colors and elegant patterns.

Traditional, or antique, Persian rugs are what most people identify as “authentic.” Hand-made, they are very durable and, if properly cared for, can be passed down from generation to generation. Modern Persians, on the other hand, are often machine-made. Although this production process is much faster and cheaper, the resulting rugs typically do not have the same quality or lifespan as handwoven ones, so traditional options are considered better investments. Today’s carpets, Iranian or otherwise, can’t possibly match the level of craftsmanship that prevailed centuries ago, so historical Persian carpets will always be admired and highly valued.

To distinguish between the two, look for imperfections. Because traditional Persian rugs are handwoven, you will likely see small flaws on the front and back. With a machine-made imitation, on the other hand, you will probably not find stitching glitches, and the back will have a mesh or plastic covering.

Antique rugs are handmade from the finest materials, including wool, silk or cotton — never synthetic fibers. The fibers used in older rugs are colored using natural dyes derived from insects and plants and woven into bold designs that reflect Iran’s culture and history. Since Persian tribes traditionally raised and herded sheep, wool was the most common material. The fiber has many advantages: It is fire-resistant and dries much more quickly than cotton. Also, because of its natural elasticity, it is more durable than cotton or silk. Regarded as works of art, Persian rugs can take months or years to complete.

When shopping for vintage silk Persian rugs, you'll want to consider color, size and more — for a history of these rugs and tips on how to style yours, visit our guide to these woven creations today.
