Gaetano Pesce La Smorfia Chair Meritalia, 2003

About the Item

Postmodern chair designed by Gaetano Pesce and manufactured by Meritalia, Italy 2003. This unique shaped chair is more of a sculpture and fits perfectly in the oeuvre from Pesce, with playful interesting shapes. A mix of materials with a focus on rubber and plastic. Free forms, unique pieces and all the colours that you can think of. This chair in particular has something that is not directly noticeable as the tongue shaped seat draws all the attention to it. It actually has a true printed face; on the back rest you will see eyes and a nose. This feminine shaped chair is a sculptural piece, as it is not super comfortable to sit on for hours, maybe to change shoes or something like that. It should be seen as a sculpture. On the laminated plastic back part, a text is written in 4 colours and in 4 languages. This text written by Geatano is a funny feature of the design, so this piece is sculptural but also has an underlying meaning. Which is of course always nice in a piece of design, as most designer pieces you buy because of the story behind them. This chair comes from an old store stock and was actually never used, so the condition is close to perfect. It comes with 1 arm rest which can be placed wherever you want, it is a nice addition to the design anyway. Gaetano Pesce is one of the most known, still alive, post-modern designers. With design and architecture all over the world, he recently became very popular in Asia as well after placing some important buildings there. His work is collected all over the world, so take your chance to obtain this collectors item which was only in production for a short period of time.
