Jindrich Halabala Re-Upholstered Patinated Bentwood Lounge Chairs, 1940s

About the Item

Jindrich Halabala re-upholstered patinated bentwood lounge chairs, 1940s Czech Republic. These iconic set lounge chairs are from Czechia, circa 1940. Produced by Thonet, these lounge chairs (model H-227), designed by Jindrich Halabala, are a norm for midcentury design in Central Europe. An uncomplicated and sleek geometry contrasts the soft, comfortable seat with dynamic bentwood elements. Borrowing the terminology of modernism, Halabala created a distinctive aesthetic, passionate, streamlined, and humanistic, a social design suited for inviting and functional domestic spaces. Re-upholstered in a comfortable fabric. Like all of our upholstered pieces, these can also be newly upholstered to your wishes. We have many of these armchairs available, perfect for your interior projects, such as a restaurant or hotel. About the creator: Jindrich Halabala was born in 1903 in the Czech Republic. He worked as a pupil in the workshop of his father. After several experiences and knowledge development about wood, he studied at the Academy of Applied Arts in Prague. After graduating in 1926, he joined the Bohumil Hübschmann studio in Prague and worked for the UP Company as an Artistic Director. The company adapted its process production to the new consumption and mass-produced. Halabala consequently had new responsibilities. The enterprise produced pieces of furniture based on Halabala’s design. The furniture made is well-known for its high quality, comparable to the excellent European manufacturers.
