Pair of Barcelona caramel-colored armchairs Original Knoll Mies Van der Rohe

About the Item

Pair of caramel-colored Barcelona armchairs by Mies van der Rohe for Knoll. Iconic Barcelona armchairs designed by Mies van der Rohe in 1929. Knoll original 1960s production, present on both manufacture label. The Barcelona armchair was' designed by Mies van der Rohe for the German pavilion for the 1929 World's Fair in Barcelona. The pavilion was entrusted to him inquanto major exponent of the German Modernist movement, he gave elegance and grace to industrial materials. He created an innovative pavilion with a space designed for the royals to rest, for whom he wanted to design seating worthy of a king and queen. Mies being a mentor and friend of Florence Knoll granted Knoll International in 1953 the rights to reproduce the chair and stool. It was made from innovative materials such as steel to facilitate its mass reproduction. The pillow consists of 40 squares, all the same, cut and sewn by hand with button quilting. The armchairs are in good state of preservation, the frame has a slight patina that can be removed by polishing, and the leather of the cushions has no cuts but shows signs of discoloration due to use and time. It is possible to restore the color with a skin cream. No restoration work has been done as we prefer the customer to decide whether to keep the vintage soul of the object or give it new life.
