Marco Zanuso & Richard Sapper Metal ‘Lambda’ Chairs, Italy, 1959

About the Item

Set of four Lambda chairs by Richard Sapper and Marco Zanuso for Gavina, Italy 1959. Industrial and revolutionary design made from stamped and enameled metal and rubber feet. The technique to stamp and shape the metal comes from the car industry where it was used for the bodywork, although a special and revolutionary idea, it seemed to be too difficult and expensive for the production of furniture. Eventually the Lambda chair was produced in small series between 1959 and 1964. It is part of the design collection of MoMa in New York. The chairs are very comfortable. The chairs are in a very good original condition and show a beautiful subtle patina.
