About the Item

This rare Mid-Century Modern recliner lounge chair was designed by George Mulhauser for Plycraft. The recliner features all of Mulhauser's design elements - a bent plywood shell with cut-out back and wood and metal supports. It is freshly upholstered in supple black leather. With a little push, this rare recliner tilts to almost horizontal with a pop-out foot rest stretching to 59". The ultimate in design forward comfort. George Mulhauser, born in 1922, was known for his molded plywood designs and iconic lounge chairs. Graduating in 1953 from Pratt Institute with a degree in Industrial Design, Mulhauser quickly established himself as a staff designer in the early days of the newly formed George Nelson Studio. Mulhauser designed for many companies, most notably for Paul Mccobb, Design Institute of America, Directional, Singer, Overman, Stendig, and Plycraft.
