The Soft Heart Lounge Chair in Red, Ron Arad for Moroso Italia, 1990s.

About the Item

the soft heart chair, Ron Arad for Moroso Italia, 1991 Made in Italy by Moroso Polyurethane foam, internal wood frame, upholstery Forms that speak volumes. A collection that, from Big Easy, steel chair designed by Ron Arad in 1988, shows that a volume, as simple form, can be translated, without compromising the design principles, through a reinterpretation of materials and production processes. The model obtained from a constructive gesture becomes industrial production; the visual softness and fullness of the volumes, comfort. Big Easy explores the rotational molding and the use of polyethylene; Soft version in the cold-foaming and, with the polyester fiber cladding, the transformation of the tactile surface; in the elements of the collection, the morphology and the dynamic form. Hailed as one of the foremost designers of the 20th Century, Ron Arad was born in Tel Aviv and studied at the Jerusalem Academy of Art before moving to London and the Architectural Association where he studied under Peter Cook, founder of Archigram. Ron Arad has successfully established a unique design style using unorthodox combinations of materials and concepts. Frame in hardwood and stress-resistant polyurethane foam upholstered with polyester fibre. Spring collection covers are not removable. The full Spring Collection includes The Big Easy (plastic, soft big, soft little, double), the Big Heavy (soft big, soft small), the Size Ten, and the Soft Heart. 25.5" w 41" d 30.75" h seat: 27.25" h. 55 Kg

Ward Bennett for Brickel Black Ash Scissor Lounge Chairs, Red Wool Bouclé, 1984
By Ward Bennett
Located in Brooklyn, NY
Ward Bennett for Brickel Assoc. Black ash scissor lounge chair pair, set of two, red wool bouclé, 1984, New York. Black lacquered ash, red wool upholstery, metal tags to each. Ward Bennett’s story is a remarkable one. His career began at age 13, when he quit school to work in the garment district in New York City. At 15, he designed his first clothing collection; at 16 he left for Europe, where he continued working on fashion design. While in Europe, he attended art schools in Florence and Paris, but he was mostly self-taught, with skills that ranged from illustrating, sculpting, and jewelry-making to furniture, interior, and home design. “I learn from people,” he once said, referencing a long line of influences, including Hattie Carnegie, Hans Hoffman, and Georgia O’Keeffe. Bennett eventually settled back in New York, where his reputation earned him some of the day’s most affluent clients: David Rockefeller and Chase Manhattan Bank, Tiffany & Co., Sasaki, Italian industrialist Gianni Agnelli, Rolling Stone founder Jann Wenner. Another—former President Lyndon Baines Johnson—asked Bennett to design a chair for his presidential library that would be “a cross between a barroom chair and a courtroom chair...
