About the Item

An outstanding, very rare 2-seater sofa designed by Ole Wanscher, manufactured by J. Jeppesen in Denmark around 1950. This impressive piece is really well made by on of the greatest Danish designers. It has elegant, tall wooden legs and the seat is upholstered in high quality cognac leather, fitting the design perfectly and matching really nicely with the upholstery. The elegant shapes that give it a classical yet modern touch, are iconic for this designer’s style. This extremely rare piece will really draw the attention in the decor and is a fantastic find for any design enthusiast! It has the manufacturer’s tag underneath as well as the Danish Quality Control tag. It remains in very good, vintage condition with minor wear consistent with age and use, preserving a beautiful patina. Ole Wanscher (1903-1985) was one of the greatest icons of modern Danish design. He studied under Kaare Klint at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts and later worked at Klint’s design studio. Later he worked as an independent furniture designer. He set a real mark on the world of Danish design. He later also educated at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts. Wanscher’s classic and contemporary designs have been popular ever since. In 1958, the Danish newspaper Politiken wrote: “Owning a Wanscher chair is an adventure every day, and will be so even several hundred years from now, for this is how long it lasts”.
