About the Item

A masterclass in restrained elegance and functional form, this PK-91 folding stool by Poul Kjærholm is a rare and collectible original produced by E. Kold Christensen, Kjærholm’s earliest and most esteemed manufacturer. Designed in 1961, the PK-91 reflects Kjærholm’s unique approach to modernism—merging industrial materials with artisanal detail. The stool features a beautiful cognac leather seat stretched over a matte chrome steel X-frame, exemplifying Kjærholm’s signature use of steel as a structural and aesthetic element. The clean, architectural lines and foldable design reference classical campaign furniture, elevated here to a piece of timeless Scandinavian minimalism. The stool was upholstered recently in the finest cognac colored natural leather by the only recognized Kjærholm upholsterer. The steel frame clearly shows the determining detail that distinguishes the early E. Kold Christensen examples from the later made stools; all corners of the frame show a finger joint, as pictured in the 4th photo. Please be aware to check this detail when you are looking for an original example of this beautiful design. Details: Designer: Poul Kjærholm Manufacturer: E.
