About the artist:
Bonnie Edelman was born in New York City. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from Connecticut College on an academic and athletic scholarship. Having been raised in a family of artists and architects, Bonnie was always creating. Whether it was sculpture, painting, jewelry making and interior design, she has always had an intense need to express herself through creativity. Fashion was an all encompassing self expression so it was because of this idea of materializing thoughts, desires and inspirations that she decided to devote her career to the editorial side of the fashion industry.
After an internship at Rolling Stone Magazine and then formally starting her career as the assistant to the Fashion Director at Seventeen Magazine, Bonnie moved through the ranks at Glamour Magazine and MTV. She then settled into the position of Travel Editor at Sports Illustrated, where she navigated the world producing exotic and inspiring photo shoots for the magazine’s annual Swimsuit Issue. It was during this time spent in The Islands of the Maldives, Ecuador, Venezuela and Kenya, to mention a few, while working closely with photographers like Sante D’Orazio, Russell James...

Inspired by slot-car racetracks, each painting depicts a meandering, yet cyclical path that twists and turns upon itself in an endless loop. Isolated from time and place, the painting achieves a sense of timelessness and draws a through line linking the past, the present, and the future.
Entitled "Superior," this track painting is one of five compositions inspired by the Great Lakes. Like all of Fitzgerald's works, the paintings are deeply responsive to his surroundings and encapsulate the unique industrial histories and geologic wonders of the American midwest. Fitzgerald describes his Great Lakes series as "a contemplation of these wondrous bodies of water that have impressed and mystified me beyond words since childhood. My desire within each work is to create the timeless quality of a relic imbued with nostalgia and emotive power."
The focal point of "Superior" is a meandering loop of thin, colorful stripes, contrasted by a dark blue-black field that recalls the deep waters of Lake Superior. Like beams of light cutting through darkness, the rainbow track twists and turns to fill the surface, surrounded by round forms reminiscent of floating air bubbles. At once bright and colorful yet dark and mysterious, "Superior" evokes the sensation of being underwater, painted to resemble "a track that is submerged or beneath a surface, but illuminated and glowing." Fitzgerald's inspiration for this work comes from his formative memory of the sinking of the SS Edmund Fitzgerald...

It's a part of his Voice-Over series, in which the artist culls linguistic phrases in a journey to immortalize how wonderfully other cultures have contributed to the American Diaspora. To explain that Buchman's word paintings are 'A Figure of Speech' is underestimating the level of soulfulness at which these works reside. They are markings directly from the artist’s hand yet are indications of many people before him. These are words from familiar phrases, music albums, his funny brand of irony and the human form itself. As far as "Exit Strategy" goes, Peter Buchman tends to dream a lot when he sleeps. When it's a really deep sleep, he is usually in an espionage kind of caper. Maybe James Bond meets film noir. He doesn't know why, but he's woken himself up running in place, sweating, and truly believing that he's killed someone. It is such a relief to sit up in bed and find that nothing's really happened, and all is well in his little corner of the world. With that said, there's a twisted, funny side to all of this, which leads him to something that everyone is familiar with: getting out of a sticky situation and how to address it.
