Vintage Hand Woven Folkloric Tapestry of Horse Rider in Chagall-Inspired Design
Located in Barrington, IL
This stunning vintage mid-century handwoven tapestry captures the dynamic energy of a folkloric rider performing acrobatics on a galloping horse. The rider, dressed in traditional costume, soars with movement and rhythm, embodying both grace and bold expression. Rendered in brilliant jewel-toned colors, the tapestry exudes the dreamlike and whimsical qualities often associated with Marc Chagall’s iconic murals at New York’s Metropolitan Opera House. The fluid motion, vivid palette, and magical subject matter all echo Chagall’s signature style, making this piece not just a textile, but a work of fine art. A truly unique artisan creation, this tapestry is perfect for collectors of mid-century modern design, folkloric art, or those seeking a statement piece that tells a story. It brings texture, warmth, and a rich narrative to any wall it adorns. French Landscape Tapestry Probably Beauvais, circa 1750 7'3 x 9'3
Located in New York, NY
French landscape tapestry probably Beauvais, circa 1750. Although not a product of the Royal Gobelins factory in Paris, this pictorial landscape tapestry is extremely Fine with silk highlights. The French royal tapestry works in the Gobelins made masterpieces for the crown. For the nobility and bourgeoisie, Beauvais was the source for attractive wall hangings in all sizes, degrees of fineness and subject matters. Rural scenes particularly appealed to urban collectors. Here two white geese cavort under a sandy bluff. The hillock is framed on each side by trees, one a blasted trunk, and topped by a picturesque rustic windmill. Realistically depicted flowers, overhanging grasses and luxuriant foliage give a summer air to the image. In addition, a startled bird, flies up to the right. The border is a trompe l’oeil gilt picture frame with corner bosses and low relief “carving”. The weave is quite Fine and is executed in wool with copious silk details. Although Jean Pillement...

Vintage Moroccan Blue Kilim Rug with Geometric Border and Two Diamond Lozenges
Located in Morristown, NJ
Antique early 20th century Moroccan Kilim rug, with two central diamond medallions, made in simple flat-woven or tapestry technique, in which the pattern is produced by horizontal wefts that cover the vertical warps. The ground is a denim blue color with browns, greens, beiges, pinks and blues woven into the border decoration and diamond medallions. The desire for the ‘exotic’ rug family in Western culture played no small part in the entrance of Moroccan style to the world stage and the gradual western influence on the style we see today. Given their thinner, supple structure, Kilim rugs are usable not only as decorative floor covering, but also as wall hangings and on furniture or bed coverlets...
