Previously the property of Pamela Churchill Harriman. This pair of earrings is in very good condition. Marked 10% IRID.PLAT. A marvellous pair of ruby and diamond earrings by David Webb (1925-1975). David Webb’s jewellery made great waves in 1950’s American society. Often referred to as the quintessential American jeweller, Webb’s designs featured bold, bright gemstones and designs previously unseen in American culture. Worn by the most fashionable ladies of the time, including Elizabeth Taylor, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis and Barbara Streisand, David Webb soon became a must have staple in American lady’s jewellery boxes. This pair of clip-on earrings are an exemplary David Webb creation. Featuring a round cabochon ruby, of brilliant pinkish hue, set to a glittering diamond floral mount. When worn, the floral mount appears to climb up the ear, creating a stunning affect, echoing growing flowers. It seems fitting therefore, that such a fabulous pair of earrings were owned by an equally fabulous woman, Pamela Churchill Harriman. Quite the character, she was made notorious by her many affairs and made renowned by her involvement in American politics, eventually becoming the 58th United States Ambassador to France. These earrings were worn at the 1983 Democratic congressional fundraiser, and their colourful and effervescent design, very much reflects the wearer and her history. Hailing from the collection of Bentley & Skinner, Jewellers by Royal Appointment to His Majesty King Charles III.
