Pair of Edwardian Diamond and Ruby Earrings
About the Item
A pair of Edwardian diamond and ruby earrings, the central star motif centred with an old brilliant-cut diamond to six radiating arms set with graduated old-cut diamonds, total diamond weight approximately 0.45 carat, within an openwork scalloped-designed surround, set with calibrated rubies, all set in platinum and yellow gold mount with gold post and scroll fittings, circa 1910, measuring approximately 1.5cm in diamter, gross weight 3.95 grams, in original fitted box.
Edwardian earrings in good condition.Unmarked tested as 18ct gold and Platinum.
A delicate and exquisite pair of earrings, from the collection of Bentley & Skinner, the London jewellers by appointment to both Her Majesty the Queen and His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales. Celestial motifs were popular throughout the nineteenth and early twentieth century. The famously stylish Queen consort of King Edward, Alexandra of Denmark, had a particular fondness for star jewellery and was often photographed wearing jewellery featuring star designs. These earrings would be an elegant addition to a classic cocktail dress.
