“I wanted to create a classic vintage piece in honor of the world’s greatest lover Giacomo Casanova, reflecting on his rich Venetian heritage and his impact on carnal thoughts and desires. The sculpture embodies the image of this red blooded Italian, full of passion, color and strength, dressed in ornate design and bursting with sexual energy. The piece had to scream Venice with all the mystery of disguise and its naughty playfulness. Smooth cabochon gems possessing natural sexual energy were my inspiration for the rich colors. The ornate wrought iron pattern on the shaft is reflective of Casanova's gateway to pleasure and my use of rich yellow gold, diamonds and pearl was to add treasure to the memory of this passionate man and his famous legacy of love.”

From the artist "My new series of sculptures Magical Zoo observes this calamity through the prism of the wonder and playfulness of the natural world, through the miracle and majesty that is found in each and every animal, big and small, aquatic and land. The medium of the series consists of post mass consumption up-cycled material: paper products, packaging, non-recyclable plastics, fabric leftovers, other items that would have otherwise gone to a landfill. All the color on the finished sculptures comes from swatches of the up-cycled material itself. The only other substance added to the work is the transparent varnish glue. The pieces in the series are produced in an environmentally sustainable manner. Magical Zoo creates its own reality through the dualism of a colorful, whimsical representation of an animal whose habitat has been destroyed by industrial expansion or deforestation. Or an animal that was a hair away from going extinct, or an animal that could be next unless we do something today to stop this tragedy. Rebecca was born an artist and has always had the desire to achieve excellence in all of her endeavors. From a very early age she was immersed in imaginative creative works such as building models of futuristic cities, paintings, sculptures and a multitude of drawings. In 1981, at the age of 17, Rebecca moved from Lake Oswego, Oregon to New York City to pursue a career in fine art and design at the Parsons School of Design. Shortly after she arrived, Rebecca began her professional artistic career assisting the renowned illustrator Antonio Lopez. At age 18, Rebecca was hired by the famed designer Halston, and began working directly with him as a fashion designer and illustrator. Subsequently, she was discovered by the Ford Models agency and traveled around the world as a top international fashion model. Rebecca worked with renowned fashion photographers such as Richard Avedon, Bruce Weber, Steven Meisel, Patrick Demarchelier and others. Rebecca is experienced in working with the major media, including international publications such as Vogue, Harpers Bazaar, Elle, The New York Times and Glamour, among others, as well as in television. She was featured in a national Diet Slice-Style television commercial that was shown during halftime at the 1987 Super Bowl. Rebecca also appeared in top fashion shows in New York City and Paris, France and in international advertising campaigns such as Revlon’s “The Most Unforgettable Women In The World” ads photographed by Richard Avedon.
In 1991, Rebecca left a prestigious modeling career to return to her true creative passion. She began creating a series of beautiful and universally appealing fine bronze sculptures and many commissioned works. In 1998, she began oil painting and studied at the New York Academy of Art, while creating oil paintings depicting the classic nude, equine, inspirational themes and portrait commissions for select art collectors. In 2001, Rebecca developed several digital film projects through her studies in the Film Directors Program at New York University. From 2001 to the present, she continues to create bronze sculptures, drawings, and oil paintings for private art collectors.

Schulz has used various types of acrylic paint, mixed with silicon to create a variety of textures. Signed and dated "Schulz 97" on verso, with an inscription that reads "For Leo and his Beautiful Family". Wood support frame on verso.
Stephen Schulz (American, b. 1948) is an artist who has lived and worked in Fresno and Santa Cruz, California, and Cedar Grove, New Jersey. He has studied privately with Julie Connell, Jan Daniels, Michele Faia, Elle Fielder, Sal Pecoraro, Susan Stover, and Chris Volpe.
Artist’s Statement:
“My painting and artistic expression opens the doorway into an unconscious and creative world, where an uninhibited expression can take place, as one becomes immersed without the perception of time.
Painting and design started it. From the beginning the process of transforming materials into art has struck me as a magical alchemy and, over the years, that mysterious process has had its hold on me, leading me from hobby to art. The creative process fills me with a sense of wonder and has proven a most amenable vehicle for transforming inner vision to outer reality.
I paint from the inside out. Though I work quite deliberately, consciously employing both traditional and innovative techniques, my unconscious is the region of the most fertile of creative soil.
I love working with a full complement of colors but often find my design direction working within the narrow spectrum of black and white, shadow and light. Some of my early inspiration comes from the New York School and artists such as Franz Kline and Jackson Pollock. Their ideas and techniques have helped to free my mind to explore areas of the unconscious that aren’t restricted by the world of right and wrong, good and bad. The journey continues and I feel blessed to have the opportunity to explore this exquisite world of the creative process.”
