A Metal CACTUS Contemporary SCULPTURE BRUTALIST Unique PIECE by ESOJ France 2020
By (Circle of) Jan Weesop
Located in PARIS, FR
A strong and spectacular metal cactus, contemporary brutalist sculpture, unique piece by artist ESOJ, France 2020. We represent ESOJ and organized his exhibition "Metal Spirit", November 2022, in our gallery in Paris, and this unique piece was presented during this event. Esoj's work is rooted in a direct link to daily life, to the visual value of consumer objects. Whether they are elements of nature or products of pop culture, he fixes them in the metal to give them a definitive appearance, a form of immortality: a box of opened chocolates will be there forever, nothing will not erase Mickey's sluggish smile, nor his middle finger; a succulent plant frozen in iron will no longer need water... A parallel world under construction, a world of avatars springing from a metallic quintessence which confronts man with himself, with matter, with progress, to the flow of time. Beyond their symbolic force, Esoj's sculptures express as much the visceral gesture of the artist in a world losing meaning, as they catalog his universe in a subjective archive. For his first collaboration with us, Esoj looks away from his Barbie dolls, Playmobils and bags of M&Ms, to sketch a sort of return to Nature and vibrate an ancestral wisdom evident in his new series of cacti, succulents, vases and masks murals with shamanic connotations. A wisdom that he draws from his Portuguese origins, this saudade: “tension between opposites, on the one hand the feeling of a lack, on the other hand the hope and the desire to find what we lack”, embodied here by a particularly inhabited desert; where cacti are next to agaves, aloes, prickly pears, plants which are certainly ornamental but also hallucinogenic and healing, sometimes fatal; where the series of containers suggests an almost medicinal link between these inert objects, even more obvious in the wall piece inspired by Korean shaman...

Roland Paris Bronze Art Deco The Clown
By Roland Paris
Located in NANTES, FR
Art Deco bronze with green and brown patina around 1930. Bronze clown on Portor marble base. Signed Roland Paris on the embankment. Notes of micro scratches on the marble. Total height: 53cm Base: 13cm x 46.5cm Weight: 16 Kg Friedrich Richard Roland Paris (March 18, 1894 in Vienna, Austria-Hungary - May 4, 1945 in Swinemünde, Germany) was a German caricaturist, writer of satirical verse, graphic designer, painter and Art Deco sculptor. Roland Paris attended the Grand-Ducal Realgymnasium in Weimar from 1905. From 1909, he was a student at the Saxon Grand-Ducal School of Applied Arts in Weimar. Here, in 1912, he received second and third prizes as well as 25 points in a competition for the design of emblems for student associations, which he continued to produce for two or three years. Some of these works showed the influence of Art Nouveau, others included more modern approaches. In 1912, Paris took a course in sculpture at the Saxon Grand-Ducal School of Art in Weimar with the sculptor Gottlieb Elster. He then went to Munich, where he completed internships with several sculptors. In 1913, he returned to the school of Fine arts in Weimar and studied painting with Walther Klemm. In June 1915 he received his call up order for the Eastern Front of World War I and served first in a commando unit and then in the Air Force Inspectorate (IdFlieg) . After his return in 1919, he settled in Berlin. In 1924 he married Elisabeth Lisl Austen (b. 1897), a dancer at the Théâtre des Westens who modeled most of his female characters; he depicted himself for the facial parts of his male characters. The marriage remained childless. Their shared one-bedroom apartment in the backyard of Xantener Strasse 11 in Berlin-Wilmersdorf was also the Paris Studio, where he designed and made many of his sculptures, as well as graphics and paintings...

Santiago Rodriguez Bonome Ceramic Skye Terrier Sculpture
By Santiago Rodríguez Bonome 1
Located in Saint-Amans-des-Cots, FR
French Art Deco ceramic skye terrier sculpture by Santiago Rodriguez Bonome, France, 1920s. Height: 9.65"(24.5cm) , Width: 14.2"(36cm), Depth: 5.1"(13cm). Inciseded signature "SR BONOME PARIS" under the belly (see photo). Many works are exhibited in different museums: Paris, National Museum of Modern Art - National Center of Art and Culture Georges-Pompidou La Rochelle Spain, Valle-Inclan Foundation Spain, Museum of Lugo Spain, Caixanova Collection... Spain, Prado Museum in Madrid Born in Santiago de Compostela (Spain) in 1901, son of Evaristo Rodriguez Bréa and Antonia Bonome Pérez, he worked very young in his father's humble cabinetmaking workshop. Little attracted by this job, when his father asks him what he wants to do: "sculptor" he answers. He therefore entered, at the age of 13, in the religious imagery workshop of José Rivas, at the foot of this cathedral which he admired so much, then at the age of 18 in that of Enrique Carballido. "Because he is so, so young, Bonome! Ridiculously young said a critic, who probably did not know that these years of apprenticeship, of real apprenticeship as an apprentice in a real workshop (a saint a day and strongly, for all the processions, all the chapels and all the devotees of the province) are each worth four years -at least- of study in an academy..." Margarita Nelken (Madrid 1932) In 1924, he left for Madrid where he exhibited at the Galician Center, at the National Exhibition and then in La Coruña. In 1925, at the Galicia Center in Buenos Aires he sold almost 30 of his works. From 1926 to 1927 he exhibited in Barcelona, at the Venice Biennale then in Monza (Italy) where he met Pirandello, then in Havana. In 1929 he arrived in Paris where Lucas Moreno...
