Rare Walnut Desk in the Anglo-Japanese Style Designed by Thomas Jeckyll
By Charles Hindley & Sons, Thomas Jeckyll
Located in London, GB
A fine and rare walnut desk in the Anglo-Japanese style designed by Thomas Jeckyll and made by Charles Hindley and Sons. “Thomas Jeckyll designed some of the earliest surviving furniture inspired in decoration if not in form- by interest in Japan” (Cooper p. 138). As can be seen on the desk, the style and design details such as the ‘Key’ design, the Japanese style lacquered door panels, the cross hatching and circle design on the brass door brackets, all combine to create a unique example of Jeckyll’s Anglo-Japanese work. The ‘Key’ design on the desk appears on many of Jeckyll’s designs including the cast iron grates and fenders made by Barnard, Bishop and Barnards and on furniture designed for ‘Alecco’ Ionides for his home at no1 Holland Park, London in circa 1875. The ‘Peacock’ dining...

An exceptional Anglo Japanese rosewood table, stylistically ahead of its time. The upper and lower edges with tram line details above a pair of opposite Japanese fretwork friezes, on four bowed legs cut from solid rosewood, united by a lower shelf stepped down in the centre, (reminiscent of Godwin's most famous tea table with three hinged side leafs also incorporating a stepped shelf that he designed 1872, in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York. (Susan Soros, Secular Furniture, page 146, fig 211). He used stepped designs on the lower shelves of all of his famous Anglo-Japanese sideboards...

Contemporary Flint Jesmonite Coffee Table, Pilotis Low Table by Malgorzata Bany
By Malgorzata Bany
Located in Warsaw, PL
Contemporary Jesmonite coffee table - Pilotis Low Table by Malgorzata Bany. Pilotis Low Table, a multifunctional statement piece crafted from Jesmonite. The latest addition to the ‘Pilotis’ range, the table encompasses the pure, clean aesthetic rooted in the principles of this collection. Pilotis Low Table was inspired by ‘chabudai’, a short-legged table commonly found in Japanese homes. As well as drawing influence from the aesthetic elements of the ‘chabudai’, Malgorzata was also influenced by the ceremonial and multifunctional nature of the table, often the centerpiece which family life revolves around. Taking this essence and combining it with elements of the traditional Western coffee table...
