A single Turkish decoratively carved wooden door from the 19th century. This antique door from Turkey has a rustically decorated front side which has been ornately adorn in a carved geometric design, with a larger and two smaller panels that have hand-carved embellishments in moon and star motifs. The door is shorter than a standard door height, as it is just over 6 feet tall. The wood has a lovely old patina, with areas of wood loss and wear, which beautifully showcases its rich history and prior use. This fine impressionist landscape was painted by Canadian / American artist George Loftus Noyes (1864-1954). Noyes was born in Ontario, Canada to American parents, moved to America with his family when he was nine, settling in Cambridge, Massachusetts and in later years, Peterborough, New Hampshire. Noyes attended the Massachusetts Normal Art School and apprenticed as a glass painter before going abroad in 1890. He enrolled at the Académie Colarossi in Paris to further his academic training. There he explored the French countryside with fellow American students and discovered his love for painting landscapes en plein air. He returned to Boston in 1893 and exhibited regularly at the Boston Art Club and also with the Boston Society of Water Color Painters. In 1900, Noyes established his own summer school of painting in Annisquam, along the North Shore, where his best-known students were illustrators N. C. Wyeth and Clifford Ashley...
