"My Possibilities are Endless" Abstract Butterfly Painting Acrylic on Canvas
By Ash Almonte
Located in New York, NY
The Butterfly series for Ash began as a sentiment to her late Father. Butterflies began to appear in unexplainable ways after his passing, the artist later discovered that Butterflies represent spiritual rebirth, transformation, change, hope, and life - she goes on to say: "The butterfly series draws inspiration from Rivera's quote 'Butterflies can't see their wings. They can't see how truly beautiful they are, but everyone else can.'" After coming to the fruition that Butterflies pose as not only a symbol for beauty and rebirth, Almonte felt a feeling of deep comfort. Her passion for sharing this message of hope and renewal through her colorfully diverse canvases is achieved with resilience leaving her audience glimmering much like the inner voice and the spark of Joie de vivre that fuels her purpose in life to create. This piece is painted on thick gallery wrap canvas and is signed lower right and on verso, it comes with hanging wire on verso ready to be displayed. Art measures 48 x 48 inches Inspired by vibrance and an optimistic outlook on life, Ash Almonte is recognized for her distinct abstract expressionistic style. She is best known for her series of Chandeliers, Butterflies, and Fashion from the Seventh Avenue Design District. Almonte's award-winning works can be found in private and permanent collections around the world. She is motivated by change, compassion for others, and miraculous phenomena that can impact others for good. Her flair and admiration for fashion and art have been a staple of her life since childhood. As a young girl, she would experiment using anything she could find to make art; from tearing apart bushel baskets at her father’s fruit stand, to tearing out old magazine clippings from her mother's magazine collection; anything and everything around her could potentially be used to create. She would continue to seek out opportunities throughout her young adult years, as her love for fashion grew, allowing her to collaborate with celebrity stylists creating looks for top billboard artists, as well as apparel worn at New York Fashion Week for designers Sherri Hill...

Excavation
By Charles Houghton Howard
Located in New York, NY
Charles Houghton Howard was born in Montclair, New Jersey, the third of five children in a cultured and educated family with roots going back to the Massachusetts Bay colony. His father, John Galen Howard, was an architect who had trained at M.I.T. and the École des Beaux Arts in Paris, and apprenticed in Boston with H. H. Richardson. In New York, the elder Howard worked for McKim, Mead and White before establishing a successful private practice. Mary Robertson Bradbury, Charles’s mother, had studied art before her marriage. John Galen Howard moved his household to California in 1902 to assume the position of supervising architect of the new University of California campus at Berkeley and to serve as Professor of Architecture and the first Dean of the School of Architecture (established in 1903). The four Howard boys grew up to be artists and all married artists, leaving a combined family legacy of art making in the San Francisco Bay area that endures to this day, most notably in design, murals and reliefs at the Coit Tower and in buildings on the Berkeley campus. Charles Howard graduated from the University of California at Berkeley in 1921 as a journalism major, and pursued graduate studies in English at Harvard and Columbia Universities before embarking on a two-year trip to Europe. Howard went to Europe as a would-be writer. But a near-religious experience, seeing a picture by Giorgione in a remote town outside of Venice, proved a life-altering epiphany. In his own words, “I cut the tour at once and hurried immediately back to Paris, to begin painting. I have been painting whenever I could ever since” (Charles Howard, “What Concerns Me,” Magazine of Art 39, no. 2 [February 1946], p. 63). Giorgione’s achievement, in utilizing a structured and rational visual language of art to convey high emotion on canvas, instantly convinced Howard that painting, and not literature, offered the best vehicle to express what he wanted to say. Howard returned to the United States in 1925, confirmed in his intent to become an artist. Howard settled in New York and supported himself as a painter in the decorating workshop of Louis Bouché and Rudolph Guertler, where he specialized in mural painting. Devoting spare time to his own work, he lived in Greenwich Village and immersed himself in the downtown avant-garde cultural milieu. The late 1920s and early 1930s were the years of Howard’s art apprenticeship. He never pursued formal art instruction, but his keen eye, depth of feeling, and intense commitment to the process of art making, allowed him to assimilate elements of painting intuitively from the wide variety of art that interested him. He found inspiration in the modernist movements of the day, both for their adherence to abstract formal qualities and for the cosmopolitan, international nature of the movements themselves. Influenced deeply by Surrealism, Howard was part of a group of American and European Surrealists clustered around Julien Levy. Levy opened his eponymously-named gallery in 1931, and rose to fame in January 1932, when he organized and hosted Surrealisme, the first ever exhibition of Surrealism in America, which included one work by Howard. Levy remained the preeminent force in advocating for Surrealism in America until he closed his gallery in 1949. Howard’s association with Levy in the early 1930s confirms the artist’s place among the avant-garde community in New York at that time. In 1933, Howard left New York for London. It is likely that among the factors that led to the move were Howard’s desire to be a part of an international art community, as well as his marriage to English artist, Madge Knight...

"Curl Curl Beach Hills" Colorful Contemporary Mixed Media Painting on Canvas
By Antoinette Ferwerda
Located in New York, NY
This painting by Antoinette is a stylish and luxurious mixed media on canvas piece depicting abstract hills shapes with bold use of color and contrast. The dark denim blue background and the azure blue from the ocean allows for the luminosity to shine through effortlessly, as the lines and intricate details of the silk paper laid over paint and mixed media add a most interesting texture. The artist's hand embellishes gold leaf to add elegant accents. This painting comes housed in a natural oak floater frame with hanging wire on verso ready to be displayed. Art measures 47 x 47 inches Frame measures 48.5 x 48.5 inches Antoinette Ferwerda is a renowned Australian artist largely recognized for producing a bold collection of fine artwork that joyfully explores the geometry of shape and the changing light from dusk to dawn. Championing her love for shape, reflection, and nature using a diverse pallet of mixed media to portray her abstract interpretations of nature. Antoinette's diverse past and a childhood that was somewhat nomadic has inspired much of her work today. Antoinette’s backstory reads like something out of an adventure series, having spent her early days living in remote pockets of Papua New Guinea, where she was lucky to spend time in a seaside shack on Ela Beach in Port Moresby, as well as the volcanic town of Rabaul, the Cargo Port Lae, before moving on to Darwin where her Dad worked for the Red Cross and helped with the re-build process after Cyclone Tracy. This was followed by a family stint in Europe, visiting Netherlands, London, Belgium, France, Italy, and Switzerland, before finally settling back in Melbourne for her formative years. Her love for nature and exploring the patterns and relationships she finds within started early. “I’ve been forever fascinated with color and the magical interplay of light”. “Blessed to have a teacher Mum who fostered regular creative time during our nomadic stint, my childhood was largely spent creating, especially outdoors”. Never without a pen, sketchbook or scraps of paper, her natural ability to create in layers instinctively started in these early years. Although her work continues to evolve, she consistently creates works that are rich in layers, resulting in pieces that are optimistic, luminous and full of stories from her colorful life. Her signature work is abundant with color and texture, resulting in a transparent quality of her works. Adaptable to any palette, Antoinette has produced works from a diversity of spectrums and mediums – sun-soaked, muted and ethereal, vibrant, as well as monochromatic with accents of gold. Her themes include abstract and metaphysical interpretations of fossicking in rock pools, exploring the rolling hills of the countryside both here and abroad, the rock formations of the Australian outback and the magical light of a European summer to name just a few. Her dream and longing to become an artist became a reality after starting her own family and farewelling a corporate life in the pharmaceutical industry, with her debut solo exhibition in 2014. Six years on, Antoinette has fast become a firm favorite amongst interior designers, stylists and home decorators alike, having been represented by fenton&fenton, Thom Gallery and Trit House (formally Click On Furniture) to name just a few. Continually experimenting and evolving as an artist, Antoinette invites the viewer to look deeper through surface layers to find hidden stories of color and form. Past collections have been inspired by visits to the bustling markets of India, the morning light outside her childhood beach shack...

Like The Wings Of A Dove: contemporary abstract painting, acrylic and charcoal
By Alysha Grace Marko
Located in New York, NY
Like The Wings of A Dove kicks off 2023 with a bold arrangement of colors smathered across a tan background, inspired by the beaches of Palm Beach, Florida. This piece is part of a series by Alysha Marko featuring other works like Treasure At The Beach as well as Fun Crowd: small abstract paintings that serve to document the very present feelings of the artist as she paints with immediacy. The bright magenta and blue contrast the soft brown and white colors. The bright colors realize the glam and vibrancy of the Palm Beach social scene, surrounded by warm sands and foamy waters on the oceanfront, giving off vacation vibes. The title of the pieces is inspired by the iconic Stevie Nicks song. The colors are reminiscent of Nick's bold vocals thundering through the track, contrasted by the soothing imagery of a white dove cooing.
