An exceptional, fine and impressive antique Edwardian English sterling silver Reed and Ribbon pattern fruit/dessert cutlery set for twelve persons made by Mappin & Webb Ltd - boxed; an addition to our dining silverware collection This exceptional antique Edwardian sterling silver fruit/dessert cutlery set consists of twelve knives and twelve forks. The blades of the knives have a rounded form and the forks each have four tines/prongs; the surface of each are plain and unembellished apart from the feature hallmarks. Each piece of this silver flatware service is fitted with the original hallmarked sterling silver handle, crafted in the Reed and Ribbon pattern; this pattern is also known as the Empire II pattern. Each handle is encompassed with a paralleling border of reed and tied ribbon decoration, terminating at the original sterling silver ferrules ornamented with plain embossed bands. Each knife and fork is fitted to the fine and impressive original hinged oak wood canteen box with a lift up lid and lift out tray. The interior of the box retains the original velvet lining. The interior of the cover bears a satin lining bearing the retailer's mark 'Mappin & Webb, 220 Regent Street, London'. This impressive canteen box is ornamented with a brass vacant shaped cartouche to the cover. This exceptional solid silver Edwardian service, crafted by the renowned silversmiths Mappin & Webb Ltd, is the finest example of its type you could hope to acquire. Condition This antique boxed canteen is a superior gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition. Each piece has been professionally polished and is in presentation condition. The decoration is all very sharp. The original box has been polished by a cabinet maker and is in excellent presentation condition. Full hallmarks struck to the surface of each handle and blade, in addition to the reverse of each fork drop are all very clear; the hallmarks are struck deeply due to the superior gauge of silver. An exceptional, fine and impressive antique Elizabeth I English sterling silver seal-top spoon; an addition to our 16th century silver flatware collection. This exceptional antique Elizabethan sterling seal top spoon* has a pear-shaped bowl to a faceted stem. The rounded bowl of this impressive antique silver spoon is plain and unembellished, apart from the feature assay mark. The faceted stem terminates with a knopped circular seal matrix/die bearing the initials 'SPSW'. The knopped terminal and bowl of the spoon retain the original gilding. Such 16th century examples in this condition are becoming increasingly difficult to locate. * Seal top spoons became popular in England in the later 16th and 17th centuries. NOTE: After surviving the Great Fire of London, the records at the London Assay office were destroyed by fire in 1681; their catalogues and documentation began again in 1697. A magnificent, fine and impressive antique William III English Britannia standard silver flat topped quart tankard; an addition to our range of collectable 18th century silverware. This magnificent antique William III Britannia silver tankard has a plain tapering cylindrical form onto a spreading collet style foot. The surface of this 18th century quart tankard is embellished with an impressive engraved leaf and floral bordered coat of arms depicting party per pale to the first a chevron between three lion's heads erased and to the second a bend raguly. The upper and lower portions of the body are encircled with bands of tooled decoration, with an applied moulded border to the upper rim. This antique quart tankard retains the original double stepped flat topped, hallmarked cover surmounted with an impressive volute scrolling thumbpiece. The cover is further ornamented with a band of tooled decoration to the rim accented with an applied shaped thumbpiece to the anterior edge. The hinge is decorated with ribbed ornamentation and retains the original pin. This antique Britannia standard silver tankard is fitted with an S-scroll handle ornamented with a plain rounded terminal. The spreading collet foot is encircled with a band of applied moulded decoration to the rim. Imperial quart = 2 pints/1.14 litres. Britannia silver - The Britannia silver standard of 958 (95.84% of fine silver), denoted by the icon of the seated Britannia holding an oval shield, was introduced by William III in 1697. This was to indicate the slightly higher standard of silver from sterling silver standard of 925 (92.5% of fine silver). The armourial bearings are those of the Wyndham and Penruddocke family, to commemorate the marriage of Henry Wyndham and Arundel Penruddocke on 11th September 1735. A magnificent, fine and impressive, large pair of antique George V English sterling silver bowls / centrepieces in the Art Nouveau style, an addition to our presentation silverware collection. These magnificent and large antique George V English sterling silver bowls/centrepieces have a compressed circular form onto a knopped pedestal and domed circular foot. The plain body of each piece is encircled with an impressive band of applied and chased olive leaf festoon decoration consisting of overlapping leaf designs with a bead motif to subdivision. Both sides of each piece is further ornamented with exceptional and large applied vacant cartouche bordered with a ribbon tied oak and olive branch, in addition to a scrolling and leaf motif to the upper portion. The upper portions of these concaved cartouches are subtly elevated and joined to the moulded decoration to the shaped rim. These antique silver bowls are fitted with impressive and large Art Nouveau style scrolling handles with plain plateaued upper portions and subtle thumbpieces. The knop to the pedestal is encircled with an impressive chased band of oak leaf and acorn decoration accented with a tied ribbon design. These fine examples of Art Nouveau silverware...

A magnificent, fine and impressive antique Victorian sterling silver horse and huntsman table centrepiece; an addition to our animal related silverware collection This magnificent, fine and impressive antique Victorian English cast sterling silver table centrepiece has been realistically modelled in the form of a horse and huntsman. The model is embellished with details replicating the large horse's anatomical features, coat and mane. The saddled and bridled silver horse ornament is stood behind a gentleman figure bearing huntsman attire comprised of a hunting coat, loose breeches, riding boots with spurs and helmet. The exceptional male character grasps the horse's reigns in one hand and a riding crop in the other. Both figures stand to a solid silver base ornamented with a rockwork texture. This antique cast sterling silver model sits to the original painted oak wood plinth base. This magnificent example of Victorian silverware, crafted by the renowned and important London silversmiths John Hunt & Robert Roskell, is the finest example of its type. Condition This antique sterling silver table centrepiece is a magnificent gauge of silver, magnificent quality and in magnificent condition. The cast decoration is all very sharp. Full hallmarks struck to the surface of the base, in addition to part hallmarks to the tail of the horse and boot of the huntsman all very clear; the hallmarks to the base are struck deeply due to the magnificent gauge of silver.
