A new coffee table book has just been released titled "Poster Child" The Psychedelic Art & Technicolor Life of David Edward Byrd. This original drawing is featured on page 61 of the book.
David Byrd created some of the most memorable Classic Theatre and Rock and Roll images from the 1960s and 70s. David created ALL of the Art for Bill Graham’s Fillmore East, including their Program covers and Rock posters, the art for Jimi Hendrix’s first Fillmore East appearance, The Rolling Stones 1969 World Tour art, The Who’s Performance of Tommy at the New York Metropolitan Opera House and The Fillmore, and The Grateful Dead Swell Dance Concert to name only a few. He also created the poster art for the original location of the 1969 Woodstock music festival . His memorable images were also used for classic Broadway shows like Godspell, Follies and Jesus Christ Superstar to mention only a few. These museum quality drawings are rarely made available for sale, they are not only wonderful rare works of art, but are truly historically important works in the field of Theatre and Rock and Roll collecting. It has been framed with archival double matting.
David Byrd's poster art is in many museum collections, including : The Louvre, in Paris, Victoria & Albert in London, The Museum of Modern Art in New York and The Smithsonian in Washington, DC.
Featured in this listing is the Original Color pencil Sketch created in 2006 by David Byrd prior to working on the finished painting which we also have available for sale. This drawing created in 2006 is based on David's very first original 1968 drawing for Hendrix's very first Fillmore East concert. It only featured Hendrix, and Bill Graham asked David if he could add the other two members of The Experience, which became the famous Fillmore East orange poster that featured all three members of the Experience. I included and image in this listing of the original pencil drawing from 1968 where you can see Bill requesting all three members to be included in the poster art. In this color rendering, David Byrd indicates two possible color choices for the poster in this sketch by listing the color numbers. He shows one half with one color combination and the other half with a different color combination. That was so that Bill Graham could choose which colors he preferred if the original 1968 poster art was to use this image. Joan Cardona Lladós (1877-1957) - Modernist Paris scene - Mixed media (charcoal and white wax).

He was born in Barcelona on June 30, 1877, he was registered with the name of Juan Bautista José Pedro. His parents Josep Cardona i Farré (Sant Salvador, 1852-Barcelona, ?) and Maria Lladós i Vidal (Isona, 1855-Barcelona, 1935) came from Sant Salvador de Toló and Isona, respectively, two towns very close to Tremp, in the Pallars Jussà region, close to the Lleida Pyrenees. The Cardona Lladós family was of humble origins, linked to the rural and peasant world. José Cardona and María Lladós married around 1876, when they were twenty-five and twenty-one years old respectively. The couple decided to improve their precarious situation by moving to live in Barcelona.
In 1877 Joan Cardona was born in the family home, at 62 Mediana de San Pedro Street, in the Ribera neighborhood of Barcelona and very close to the Rec Comtal. Joan Cardona was the firstborn of three brothers. When he was six years old, his sister Consuelo was born (1883) and later his younger sister, María (1888), was born. Josep Cardona i Farré was a day laborer and lived at least until the birth of his third daughter, María, in 1888. Her death, for reasons unknown to us, would occur shortly after.
After the death of Josep Cardona, León Farré i Duró (Isona, 1867-Barcelona, 1932) became part of the family nucleus with his mother María Lladós, who took care of the child Cardona and his sisters Consuelo and María.
Farré learned to play the guitar and was the most extraordinary disciple of the composer and guitarist Francesc Tàrrega i Eixea (Vila-real, 1852-Barcelona, 1909). Joan Cardona had in her stepfather the man who instilled in her a special musical and artistic sensitivity. The young Cardona took classes at the Academia Baixas, inaugurated in 1892 by the painter Joan Baixas i Carreter and installed on Carrer del Pi, a private center where a good batch of leading Catalan Modernisme artists were trained.
Cardona married Clemencia Parade Cazabat at the beginning of the century. Daughter of Carles Parade and Amara Cazabat, she was born in 1870 in Bagnères de Bigorre...

Takashi Murakami (American/Japanese, b.1962) is a painter and sculptor famous for his integration of Fine Art, commercialism, Japanese aesthetics, and cultural criticism into his work. Murakami received his BFA, MFA, and PhD from the Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music, where he studied Nihonga (traditional Japanese painting). He first gained recognition as a sculptor during the early 1990s, exploring otaku (the Japanese term for an obsession with anime and cartoons) and the contradictions between contemporary Japanese society and American culture in his work.
In 1996, he created the Hiropon Factory in Japan, which later developed into Kaikai Kiki Co., Ltd., a large art-making and artist management corporation. Murakami is also a curator and a critical observer of Japanese art. Black chalk and graphite on light weight cream wove paper, 16 1/8 x 11 1/4 inches, (410 x 286 mm), the full sheet. Signed, titled, and dated in sepia ink in the lower-center sheet area. With horizontal folds approximately 1-inch from the sheet edge at each of the four sheets. The drawing appears to have been folded at the sheet edges to fit into a frame.
Finn mac Cumail (or mac Umaill), often anglicized Finn McCool or MacCool, is a hero in Irish mythology, as well as in later Scottish and Manx folklore. He is the leader of the Fianna bands of young roving hunter-warriors, as well as being a seer and poet. He is said to have a magic thumb that bestows him with great wisdom. He is often depicted hunting with his hounds Bran and Sceólang, and fighting with his spear and sword. Fionn MacCumhail was transformed into the character "Fingal" in James Macpherson's poem cycle Ossian (1760), which Macpherson claimed was translated out of discovered Ossianic poetry written in the Scottish Gaelic language.
Fionn MacCumhail features heavily in modern Irish literature. Most notably he makes several appearances in James Joyce's Finnegans Wake...
