The Comic Wood Duck- Photorealistic Portrait of a Duck on Pink Backdrop, Framed
Located in Chicago, IL
Taking a cue from celebrity publicity headshots, artist Rick Pas presents us with "The Comic Wood Duck". The duck takes on human characteristics, as if laughing at the camera, its colorful plumage set off by the pink backdrop. This piece is framed in a simple black frame measuring 15 x 15 inches. Rick Pas The Comic Wood Duck acrylic on panel 12h x 12w in 30.48h x 30.48w cm RPA018 ARTIST'S STATEMENT Creating is an addiction. With all the highs and lows you would expect. I am interested in the surface textures and creating paintings that portray them in realistic detail. Hopefully a viewer will feel they can run a hand over the feathers and moss, or grasp an object in the painting. This detail is usually composed in an abstract design. The design can occur naturally or be arranged by me. "A River Landscape with Wild Horses", Victorian original, oil on canvas
Located in Naples, Florida
This is an original unique oil painting by the artist. Born into an artistic family in Doncaster, England during 1820. Best known for his equine art, of the same character as those of the elder Herring, including "The Home Farm," "The Homestead," "The Farm-Yard," etc.John F. Herring, Jr. was born in Doncaster, South Yorkshire c.1820, to the well-known 19th-century artist John Frederick Herring, Sr. (1795-1865), who at the time, was considered one of England's great Sporting and Equestrian artists, patronized by the English aristocracy. The father's mastery of the brush, and popularity with the nobility, served his son, Herring, Jr., well. Early on, John, Jr. was exposed to fine painting and wealthy patrons. Recent reference books state that Herring, Sr.'s first child was named "John Frederick Herring, Jr." and was born on June 21, 1815. John Herring, Jr. developed a love for painting, a passion also shared by his brothers Charles and Benjamin. Three of the four brothers became artists, painting in the same style as their father, often collaborating on a single painting. In the years after 1836, Herring, Sr., feeling threatened by the teenage John Herring, Jr.'s ability and growing popularity, began incorporating the tag "SR" at the end of his signature. John Herring, Jr. continued painting in the tradition of his father, the sporting and animal pictures...

“Spending a lifetime of summers on Martha's Vineyard my work has evolved into natural forms of coastal scenes. My connection to the island developed a deep concern with natural forms life-plants, shells, hills, trees, stones and water. My paintings create a path of self-discovery. Reassembling pieces together from memory and imagination using textures, patterns and transparent layers make the viewer question how far reality can be pushed before it will yield the powerful essence of what is seen.” Anne Harney is a Boston-based painter who received her BFA with Honors in painting from Mass College of Art and Design in 2011. Duncan's Horses, a Scene from Macbeth

Charlie Watts, the legendary drummer of The Rolling Stones, was renowned not only for his musical prowess but also for his profound affection for animals, particularly Collies. He and his wife, Shirley, resided at Halsdon Manor in Devon, where they managed a stud farm for Arabian horses. Their estate was also home to numerous dogs, reflecting their deep commitment to animal welfare. Claude Lorraine Ferneley (1822–1891) was a British equestrian and sporting artist, and the son of the acclaimed Leicestershire painter John Ferneley Sr., one of the leading figures in 19th-century English horse painting. Continuing the family tradition, Claude developed a refined skill in depicting horses, hunts, and rural scenes, often drawing from the vibrant sporting life of the English countryside. Although he lived somewhat in the shadow of his more famous father, Claude Lorraine Ferneley maintained a solid reputation among country patrons for his ability to portray horses with anatomical accuracy and spirited realism. His paintings often captured the energy of the hunt and the elegance of equestrian portraiture, appealing to a clientele that prized their animals as both companions and status symbols. His work is noted for its clarity, control, and fidelity to the traditions of British sporting art, and today, Claude Ferneley is recognized as an accomplished artist in his own right, contributing to the enduring legacy of the Ferneley name in English equestrian painting.

Shopping for animal paintings?

Animal paintings depict the beauty and power of nature in an elegant way that can complement any room. Interacting with animals has long captured the imagination and has been interpreted in diverse artistic media.

Some of the oldest works of art have included animals, such as a cave painting found in Indonesia dating back more than 45,500 years that shows a wild pig in red ocher pigment. Animals have continued to appear in every era and style of art, from realism to Pop art and everything in between.

Some paintings portray animals in their natural habitat, highlighting the majesty of wild creatures roaming the plains, forests and jungles. These paintings often feature deer, tigers, wild mustangs, giraffes and other wildlife. Others focus on domestic animals such as dogs — pay a visit to the Museum of the Dog if you don’t believe us — as well as cats and how they interact with the world and their owners.

Picking the right animal painting for a room — as well as knowing how to arrange your new wall art — can take time. But, in the end, it will tastefully reflect your interests and passions. While an expansive landscape painting helps open up a small space, hanging a horse painting in a den shows a love for equine culture and can invite interesting conversation.
