Yukio Yamamoto was born in the Ako district of Hyogo Prefecture, Japan, in 1925.
In 1953, he spent a year as a research student at the Tanabe class of the Department of Ceramics at Kyoto Institute of Technology. Yukio studied the history of pottery of the past centuries of this well-known Hemiji Castle domain. He would also research kiln designs through fieldwork as his thesis project.
By 1954, he built his first Noborigama chambered climbing kiln in Tenjin-Cho, Himeji City, teaching the old-world firing process classes. This would become the first step in Yamamoto’s revival of the Tozan style of Anagama and Noborigama down-draft style wood-fired kilns. In 1600, the kiln process had been at its height and had mainly provided wares to Himeji Castle.

'Ready for Marriage' is an original opal serpentine sculpture signed by the Zimbabwean artist Washington Msonza. The sculpture features a single elegant figure in a flowing gown, standing tall and averting her gaze as she clutches the veil that envelops her. Msonza emphasizes the materiality of the work, as is so desired of artists trained in the Shona tradition, by differentiating between the dark, smooth polish of her skin and the lighter textured surface of her clothes. Even more, passages of the surface are left in the serpentine's rough natural state, allowing the green-colored stone to contrast with the red-orange oxidization of its environment.

Leslie Fry is represented in this show with fantastical sculptures of female hands, titled the “Cuffed” series. Tensely poised and mannered gestures, inspired by Parmigianino and Caravaggio, cascade into blooms and barnacles, creating a mesmerizing visual dissonance. This elision of romance and rigidity both draws attention to the limitations of the female form and liberates it from the constraints of reality. Leslie Fry’s works have been exhibited internationally at such venues as Kunsthaus in Hamburg, Zwitscher Machine Gallery in Berlin, Hangaram Art Museum in Seoul, Windspiel Galerie in Vienna, Couvent des Cordeliers in Paris, Artists Space and Wave Hill in New York, deCordova Sculpture Park and Museum near Boston, and Centre des Arts Visuels in Montreal. Her public sculptures have been commissioned in New York, South Korea, Montreal, Florida, Wisconsin, and Vermont; public collections include Tufts University, Songchu International Sculpture Park, Freehand New York, Kohler Arts Center, Tampa Museum of Art, Fleming Museum of Art, Musée d’art de Joliette, and St. Petersburg, Florida’s Museum of Fine Arts. Joan’s latest sculpture series of female figures brings an out-of-the-box approach to sculpture creation. The small vivid women figures linked or bonded to their pedestals; the figures are delicate and intriguing representation of a woman’s mind and soul yearning for liberty, freedom, a moment of tranquility from busy daily life, or a space that she could spend the time totally with herself and for escaping from the routine and monotony.
The woman made of bronze is warm and sensual and dances in/on a structure of rusted iron. She observes the world from her/ours solitude, from this vertiginous watchtower (metaphor of life, universe) rusted because the inexorable time. The base rises impressively, creating a contradiction between both pieces. However, in Joan’s work the geometrical base and the figure find a surprising harmony.

Bruno Luna was born in Mexico City in 1963. (his birth name was Norman Bardavid) Interested in art since his childhood, he completed a painting workshop with Professor Robin Bond, and then on to the Anahuac University of Mexico City to study Architecture and Graphic Design. He was an assistant to Marcelo Morandin, A renowned Mexican Sculptor. Over the years, his work evolved into a very distinct style, A style of voluptuousness influenced by Colombian master Fernando Botero (he calls them Gorditos) along with influences of Mexican tradition, and a cubist, almost Picasso esque treatment of the human figure. Bruno Luna's sculptures carry an undeniable air of joyousness, happiness and vitality. His work has been exhibited internationally, and is included in many public and private collections. Among those are the collections owned by Prince Rainier of Monaco, the American actor Chevy Chase, and many others. Bruno Luna's sculptures appeared on Mexican most popular syndicated network, Televisa, in a soap opera called "Mi Abuelo y Yo".

Haendel is originally from Wisconsin, born in West Bend in 1926. He has had exhibitions in Canada, Sweden, Italy, and England as well as many in the United States. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin at Madison with a M.S. degree in 1954 followed by advanced study in both Seattle, Washington and London, England. In 1960 he was the recipient of a Fulbright Award to study silversmithing and sculpture in England. He is Professor Emeritus in Sculpture from Northern Illinois University and currently resides in DeKalb, Illinois. His most notable work is with cast paper. Images are created by transferring a wet sheet of hand-made paper to plaster molds.

'Grandmother' is an original black serpentine sculpture by the celebrated second generation Shona artist Colleen Madamombe. The sculpture presents a character common to Madamombe's work: a woman with a round face and wearing a billowing, layered dress. Here, a woman leans on her cane, suggesting her old age. The imagery reminds of Madamombe's larger themes of womanhood, sisterhood, and matrilineage. As is so desired of her work, this sculpture is a play in texture: their faces and hands are polished and smooth, which is juxtaposed with the rough-hewn surfaces of the clothing and hair.
