Miles and published by William Mackenzie, 69 Ludgate Hill, London. A very rare, sought after and important publication illustrated with numerous finely executed anatomical and other engravings, possessing high value on the score of utility as well as of ornament, many of which are executed in colour. Not ex-library. Well over five hundred pages, 47 full-page-plates in black and white and colour (all original lithographs and colourful chromolithograph plates) also several illustrations within the text. Large format hardback book, leather corners and spine, gilt title to spine 'Modern Farriery', all page edges marbled. Internally it is very clean and bright, cover rather worn, cloth cover to the rear with tear.

George Bussey Automaton Caddie Golf Bag

A wonderful example of an early auto caddy by George Bussey. This is a rare find indeed as very few of these bags have survived, and they are difficult to obtain. The caddie has a boxwood carry handle and the main body of the caddie is made of mahogany. The boxwood handle is attached to the oak legs via metal rods and a brass mechanism. With this clever design the legs will open out automatically when the lower end is placed on the ground, they will then fold back in when lifted up. The canvas & leather bag for golf balls and the half pencil bag to the bottom of the stand are the original bags (flap is a replacement). The caddie stand is stamped with Bussey's name on the brass mechanism, and on both legs. There is a brass embossed trade label "Geo. Bussey & Co., London (with the Bussey arrow logo)' pinned onto the caddie bag...

Royal North Devon at Westward Ho! Can rightly claim to be the cradle of English Golf. Founded in 1864, it is the oldest golf course in the country and is regarded as the St Andrews of the South. The golf course is as tough as any of the UK's more famous links layouts and has recently been placed in Golf World 's 'Top 100 Courses in the World' that a golfer 'must play'.
Not only is Royal North Devon a great course, it is also a place of huge historical importance. Inside the warmly welcoming clubhouse, the golf museum, honours boards and the clubs top competition trophies are worth a visit on their own and help to tell the story of the game and this remarkable club's unique place in it.
Above all, this is great, natural golf that is largely unchanged from 100 years ago when Harold Hilton et al pronounced Westward Ho! As England's No 1 competition golf course.
