Vintage Halston Black Abstract Striped Silk Dress Coat, 1970s

About the Item

Halston is considered by some to be the quintessential American designer. His impact in the world of fashion was his particular understanding of comfortable clothing that was easy to wear. A signature of Halston design is the flow and the uncinched silhouettes. A 1970s vintage piece, this shirt dress is made from a rich black, lightly ribbed fabric with a satin hand. Contrasting the black is a neon pencil-line pattern of violet, teal, and red. Gathers at the shoulder yoke and the high back yoke add fullness to the silhouette flowing down to thigh level. The long sleeves are also gathered at the cap and cuff. The boxy silhouette allows this garment to have quite a few wearing options. It can be worn as is as a boxy shirt dress or it can even accommodate being worn as a light jacket over something else. A belt can always be added for more fit. Size estimate: S/M Shoulders: 14 inches Sleeves: 24.5 inches Bust: up to 44 inches Waist: up to 40 inches Hips: up to 44. inches Length: 44 inches This dress is fully lined and has two hip level welt pockets. It closes at centre front with a button placket flowing from a star-shaped neckline Professionally cleaned and pressed, this dress is in excellent condition. High-quality vintage pieces like this are yours to live in and love while increasing in value every year. It’s never too soon to start collecting them, as an investment in your wardrobe—and in yourself. Please note Halston label has fallen out since this was photographed.

I Magnin & Co. Blue Silk velvet Evening Cape Coat, 1930s
By I Magnin and Co
Located in Boca Raton, FL
From as early as the late 1910s, the trend of Orientalism was all the rage in the Western fashion scene. With various styles, the mid-to-late 1920s saw the rise in the popularity of chinoiserie blue derived from the artistic decorations of Chinese porcelains. This rich color trend graced the designs of haute couture designers such as Lucien Lelong and became widely available to the upper-class masses. From the former San Francisco based department store, I. Magnin, this 1930s evening cape is a vintage treasure that captures its time. Done in a rich blue silk velvet, the cape is multi-tiered coming down to knee level with two heavily flounced tiers that encircle the torso that cover the arms acting as sleeves. The sumptuous layering of the silk velvet pairs with a mock shawl collar that creates a regal aura to this design. This cape is an excellent vintage outerwear...
