Large Rare Blue and White with 'Rockwork and Flowers' Dish, Early Qing dynasty
Located in seoul, KR
This dish features a rockwork design that was popular during the Mid to Late Ming dynasties. The blue-and-white underglaze effectively captures the vibrant tones typical of the late Ming and early Qing periods. The detailed depiction of flowers, leaves, and rockwork is both rich and vivid. Due to its excavation from the seabed, the glaze in the central area shows signs of wear, particularly compared to the more preserved sides of the dish. Although it was soaked in hot water to remove the salt at the time of acquisition, slight salt residue remains on the surface.
Period : Qing Dynasty(Presumably Kangxi or Yongzheng Period)
Type : Dish
Medium : Blue and White glaze
Condition : Excellent(slight salt residue remains on the surface, and the glaze is worn primarily around the edges.)
Provenance: Southeast Asia, South China Sea from Shipwreck in early 2000s

* Yuan-Ming Style from Qing Dynasty
During the Qing dynasty, many ceramics were produced that imitated the styles of the Ming and Yuan dynasties. This practice was not mere imitation but a creative endeavor to inherit and innovate upon past techniques and styles. Qing dynasty ceramicists mastered the exceptional techniques of Ming and Yuan ceramics and used them as a foundation to develop more advanced works. Particularly, Yuan dynasty blue and white porcelain...

Large Contemporary Ceramic Tsubo Jar by Kai Tsujimura
Located in Atlanta, GA
A massive stoneware tsubo floor jar created by Japanese contemporary ceramic artist Kai Tsujimura (1976-). The heavy jar with its impressive volume was made in the tradition of Iga ware with local coarse sandy clay that turned reddish after the firing. It took its shape from heavy medieval storage jars with a wide-open mouth. For a nearly identical form, see an Echizen jar from Heian period (794–1185) in the collection of MET (Accession Number: 1977.261). The surface showcases scattered white crystalized feldspars and a green vitrified ash glaze cascade down the body (known as biidoro in Japanese - after the Portuguese word for glass vidoro). These is a globular shape impressed on the jar. It is a signature practice of the Tsujimura potter family by stacking bowls between the pieces in the kiln during the firing, resulting in an accidental but iconic aethetic (Kai and Yui Tsujimura...

Pair of Japanese Moriage Satsuma Vases with Gold Gilding Circa 1930-1940
Located in Ixelles, BE
Japanese Satsuma vases from the circa 1930-1940 period are a particular style of ceramic art that originated from the Satsuma province of Japan. Satsuma ware is renowned for its intricate hand-painted designs, rich colors, and distinctive crackled glaze.
Satsuma ware dates back to the early 17th century, but it gained widespread popularity in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, including the 1930s and 1940s. Satsuma vases produced during this time often reflected a mix of traditional and modern influences, as Japan went through a period of cultural exchange and artistic experimentation.
Satsuma vases are made from a type of Japanese earthenware clay known for its fine texture and malleability. The vases are hand-formed or wheel-thrown and then meticulously hand-painted with intricate designs using enamel paints. The distinctive crackled glaze was achieved by firing the vases at a relatively low temperature, allowing the glaze to crack during the cooling process.
The moriage technique involves applying three-dimensional, raised ornamentation to the surface of the ceramic piece, creating a visually textured and layered effect. Artisans create three-dimensional patterns, designs, or intricate motifs using a special mixture of clay, slip, or porcelain paste. The raised elements are added by hand to the ceramic body, and each detail is carefully shaped to achieve the desired effect.
The moriage is then gold gilded as some of the intricate ornamental patterns and the halos around the three immortal...
