From our Jewellery Box collection, we are pleased to offer this Antique Coromandel Jewellery Box by Austin of Dublin. The Jewellery Box of rectangular form veneered in exotic Coromandel and edged in brass with a circular brass vacant initial plaque to the lid framed in double stringing and matching circular brass barrel escutcheon to the front. The exterior of the Jewellery Box is finished with double brass stringing framing the front and top panel. When opened the Jewellery Box reveals an inner reversible mirror which can be removed to access document storage in the rear. The document storage is signed with a gold impressed mark for Manufactures Thomas and George Austin of Dublin. To the top of the Jewellery Box is a removable partitioned tray lined in royal blue silk water paper with cushioned velvet pads including ring and/or cufflink storage. A delightful Thai Rattanakosin Period lacquered and gilt cast bronze figure of the Buddha in royal attire, mid 19th century, Thailand.
The charming figure depicts the Buddha in dhyanasana, the gesture of meditation. The Buddha sits serenely in half lotus position, his hands resting comfortably upon his lap, one on top of the other.
The Buddha is dressed in elaborate robes, cast with floral and foliate designs in high relief. Over his robe, he wears the regalia of Thai kings, with a heavy cape...

19th Century Italian Voting Box Tuscan Confraternity Carved Barrel Ballot Box
Located in Milano, MI
19th century Italian Confraternity Voting Urn of Tuscan origin realized with turned and carved poplar wood. The barrel-shaped central body, in which hands were inserted to insert the ballot ball into one of the two holes connected to the small drawer below, where on the front we find the inscription YES and NO related to voting, SI and NO, in order to distinguish for and against votes on paper, then collected in two separate small drawers, just below. Standing on four curly feet, it has a beautiful curved handle and carved parts at both ends, highlighted by ebonized details.
In a fraternity, this ballot box was used to collegially adjudicate community choices. In good age related condition, with sogns of wear and use. This antique Italian ballot wooden box, carved and painted, coming from Tuscany, in Central Italy. This ballot urn is an excellent example of a 19th century wooden voting box...
